Position: Youth Theatre Instructor: Production Manager

Job Description:

The theatre production manager keeps the production running smoothly by working as a liaison between the students (cast), crew and directors. The manager keeps track of the program schedule and rehearsal times, as well as coordinating and scheduling additional/volunteer production helpers. The theatre production manager also takes notes concerning the director's vision, technical issues, and cast blocking to verify continuity. In the context of the Mudd Butt program, the theatre production manager will also act as the Stage Manager during the rehearsals and final shows. This responsibility includes: knowing all cues of the show, organizing and managing backstage, calling all cues of the show, paying attention to all details while maintaining the overall vision and big picture of the show.

The production manager will act as a liaison between the Telluride Academy administrative staff and the artistic directors of the program.

Responsibilities as a Theatre Instructor & Production Manager:

  • Work closely with Artistic Directors & Propmaster
    • Support the visions and creative needs of the artistic directors
    • Provide daily administrative support
    • Provide technical support during daily rehearsals
    • Assist in the fabrication of props
  • Work closely with co-instructor / administrative assistant
  • Participate in (& occasionally lead) daily theatrical warm ups and exercises with students
  • Schedule & organize costume fittings
  • Organize & inventory costumes & props
  • Coordinate cast party
    • Secure venue
    • Organized parent/ family potluck
    • Create playlist for dance party
    • etc.


  • Experience working with youth
  • Interest in performing arts
  • Preferred previous experience working in theatrical & creative settings
  • Excellence in interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Gmail, google calendars, & google drive
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
  • Willingness to learn and adapt
  • Desire to collaborate & work towards a common goal
  • Current CPR & first aid certified (or ability to attain before employment)
  • Weekend availability & participation required for the Load IN/OUT of show
    • Ability to lift 50lbs

Additional responsibilities include, (but not limited to):

  • Planning outdoor daily lunch location & activity
  • Plan weekly adventure field trips off campus
    • Coordinate logistics for outdoor activities
      • Communicate plans & needs with the Academy Program Director and Academy Field Manager
      • Familiarity with flatwater boating safety & procedures is a plus
      • Ability to drive 15 passenger van
        • Comfortable (willingness to learn) attaching/hitching a gear trailer & driving 15 passenger van with gear trailer attached
