Job Summary

Responsible for managing the daily operations of the housekeeping, laundry and janitorial departments to ensure efficient operations and quality guest service. Responsible to identify and implement necessary department change to ensure optimum service and profitability.

Essential Job Functions

Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities):

  • Oversees housekeeping, laundry and janitorial department’s seasonal staff hiring, training and performance
  • Reviews, recommends and implements appropriate changes based on guest comments, complaints and concerns to ensure that guest expectations are met
  • Work closely with all other departments to ensure overall guest satisfaction within the Lodge
  • Identifies, recommends and implements necessary department change to ensure optimum service and profitability
  • Assists Rooms Division Manager in preparation of the annual budget and monitors, manages, and reports the status of expenses, inventory and labor as outlined in the budget forecasts
  • Coordinates with assistant managers of housekeeping, laundry and janitorial to ensure accurate work schedules and timesheets are prepared to meet the Lodge’s needs
  • Reviews daily occupancy level to ensure that guest rooms are cleaned and available by required check-in
  • Performs random guest room inspections to ensure cleanliness is up to standards and meets company and guest expectations
  • Oversees inventory control and ordering and actively works to identify best product pricing
  • Performs other duties as are appropriate and as assigned

Skills + Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of housekeeping, laundry and janitorial principles in the hospitality industry
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage staff
  • Ability to train and mentor staff on delivery of excellent customer service principles and practices ability to make decisions, solve problems, and exercise good judgment; ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload
  • Must have superior organizational and follow-up skills and be detailed oriented
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare and submit comprehensive reports
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as a team member
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with an emphasis on the presentation of information relating to housekeeping, laundry and/or janitorial matters in a meaningful manner to the ultimate decision-maker
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated company employees and outside business associates
  • Proficiency in the use of computers including Microsoft Office suites and industry-standard computer software
  • In-depth knowledge of Company policies, procedures and employee programs
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure
  • Willing to work extended hours, various shifts, and on holidays and weekends
  • Knowledge of and ability to work safely with cleaning chemicals and techniques and be able to receive training in bio-hazard material clean-up
  • Familiarity with standard industry laundry equipment
  • High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information

Physical Abilities:

  • Must be able to walk, sit and stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to kneel, crawl, bend and twist at the waist on a regular basis
  • Must be able to reach at, above and below shoulder height with regular frequency
  • Must be able to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis
  • Must be able to maintain balance on unsteady or uneven surfaces, ladders, and to negotiate stairs on a regular basis
  • Must possess sufficient fine and gross motor skills to operate computers and other equipment as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ housekeeping/laundry/janitorial management experience in the tourism and/or hospitality industry, or any combination of management, education and experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have valid and clean driving record
