Sweet Basil Inc is the owner and operator of both Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard Restaurants.  Both restaurants are in the heart of Vail Village.  Sweet Basil has a storied history and has been counted among Colorado’s best since 1977.  This landmark restaurant is driven to provide a world-class dining experience rooted in exceptional hospitality.  Sweet Basil’s cuisine is progressive, contemporary American, ingredient-driven, refined yet playful.  Mountain Standard is based on the same drive for excellence but presented in a more casual, communal atmosphere.  The food is focused on carefully sourced ingredients and wood-fired cooking methods.  The open kitchen, open live fires, energetic vibe, and carefully curated taps and cocktails all contribute to the perfect modern mountain dining experience.  

Rather than hiring for a specific line cook position or station, we focus on finding the most dedicated, talented, and professional cooks we can find.  We hope those individuals are eager to work any station in our kitchens and operate under a team-first mentality.  We offer the following stations in our kitchen and seek to find which one fits the individual’s skill set best: grill, saute, vegetable, pantry/garde manger, raw bar, pasta, prep, and line prep. We offer a broad pay scale to accommodate a diverse range of skill sets.  Most cooks start somewhere between $20-23 per/hr., but with tenure and effort, that can easily grow to $25/hr plus  

While each station is unique, and each offers a different set of challenges and rewards the basic duties in our kitchens are the same regardless of station or position.  Each cook is expected to complete the following:

  • accomplishing all daily prep and mise en place with accuracy and quality
  • set up of assigned station, including all related tools, equipment, and mise en place
  • constant sanitation and cleaning of the assigned station, as well as general kitchen areas
  • execution of all dishes for the assigned station to our established quality, presentation, and seasoning standards
  • break down and cleaning of the assigned station, as well as all general kitchen areas
  • completion of all prep lists for the following day, communicating any additional help needed

This is just a sample of the basic kitchen operations, there are many other layers that will be clearly defined during training.

Compensation will be determined based on experience and skillset, but our kitchen is now included in our TIP POOL!! Cook wages are a combination of an hourly wage and tips….and I promise you, we pay better than most!!!
