  • Reservationist

    Reservation staff assist clients in booking a variety of Swan Mountain trips, including: horseback rides in Glacier National Park and the Swan Valley, fishing trips, pack trips, hunting trips, llama treks, snowmobiling, and wilderness guide school courses. Reservationists respond primarily to web-based and phone call inquiries, but also handle walk-in guests. Reservationists document guest contact information, reserve trips, receive and compute billing information, and send follow up confirmation emails via our reservation management system. They may also assist management in administrative tasks and the maintenance of company records. The reservationist is expected to have good people and organization skills, excellent phone etiquette, the ability to multi-task, and be able to operate commonly used office equipment and computer programs. Local applicants preferred, but housing can be available for a fee. Housing is located in West Glacier so your own reliable transportation to commute to Columbia Falls will be required. Full time preferred, part time considered. Reservations staff is also given the opportunity to participate in staff trail rides at our Glacier Division corrals!

  • Activity Desk Concierge

    The Activity Desk Concierge coordinates guest participation in the activities offered via the Crown of the Continent Discovery Center.  The concierge works closely with the retail manager, corral manager, and reservations staff.  The concierge will greet customers in person, over the phone, and through email inquiries and assist them with booking trips or services offered by Swan Mountain Outfitters as well as give out relevant visitor information. They will assist the corral staff to check in guests for their ride (administer paperwork, process payments, educate about policies related to the ride). They will work with the store manager, cook, and corral staff to relay information regarding guest meals packed on certain trail rides. The concierge should have excellent communication skills and phone etiquette. They should be detail oriented, organized, able to multi-task, and familiar with common office equipment and computer programs.  Most importantly, the concierge should be extroverted and friendly. Local applicants preferred, but housing can be available for a fee. Full-time preferred, part-time considered. Activity Desk Concierge staff are also given the opportunity to participate in staff trail rides at our Glacier Division corrals!

  • Trail Ride Wrangler

    $1,300.00 / month + tips

    Wranglers share chores related to horse care and preparation for trail rides, greet visitors and share visitor information, check-in trail ride guests, instruct them in basic horsemanship, and ensure their safety as they guide them on trail rides ranging from 1 to 8 hours. During the ride, wranglers deliver interpretive dialog and area information. Please note that all of our trail rides are conducted strictly at the walk. When they aren’t on a horse, wranglers can also expect to participate in periodic trail or facility maintenance and may also assist the corral manager in basic office tasks: answering the phone, taking a reservation, taking a payment. Room and board is available, but please note that wranglers WILL share cooking and housework duties among themselves. Salaries are paid via direct deposit every two weeks, but wranglers can expect to earn cash tips daily too. Wranglers work 5-6 days a week and the work days are 12 hours long. Preference given to applicants who can work the full season, though some late arrivals and early departures can be accommodated. $1,300/Month plus tips, room and board. Current CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and Food Handlers Safety certifications preferred.

  • Gift Shop Retail/ Barista

    We are looking for retail/barista associates in the Crown of the Continent Discovery Center. Located just outside the west entrance of Glacier National Park, this location features: a gift and gear shop, ice cream parlor, coffee and spirits bar, moped rentals, horseback trail rides, and more. The retail/barista associates will help greet customers and ring up purchases, restock items, serve ice cream, make espresso drinks, make alcoholic drinks (if at least 18 years old), prepare sack lunches for trail riders, and help with basic cleaning (bathrooms, vacuum, mop, dishes, etc.). Retail/barista associates are also expected to communicate area information to inquisitive patrons. Applicants should be friendly, considerate, and able to lift 50 pounds. Full time preferred, part time considered.  Local applicants preferred, but housing can be available for a fee. $10/Hourly wage plus tips. Gift Shop Retail/Barista associates may also participate in staff trail rides at our Glacier Division corrals!

  • Trail Ride Corral Manager

    $2,000.00 / month + tips

    Corral managers must be able to perform all the functions of a trail ride wrangler (see job description for trail ride wrangler), but must also possess additional leadership and organizational abilities. The corral manager will perform opening and closing procedures of their office area and daily accounting of the cash flow. They will respond to phone and walk-up guest inquiries and communicate with reservations staff regarding bookings. They act as a liaison between the company and the National Park Service or US Forest Service rangers. They may sometimes need to deal with dissatisfied customers or resolve conflicts between staff. They will be responsible for up to 10 wranglers and up to 45 horses. They need not perform cooking and housekeeping tasks themselves, but they are ultimately responsible for assigning these tasks, inventorying supplies, and resolving issues related to staff meals and housing. They will report to the general manager to coordinate trail and facility maintenance. The corral manager must be able to perform basic equine first aid and have extensive experience in caring for horses. Corral managers should be knowledgeable in fitting western tack to horses. The ideal applicant:

    • Has excellent communication skills and is patient, yet firm, in explaining and enforcing safety policies with staff and clients
    • Is well organized and has great attention for detail, as they must document and log various activities, keep their office tidy, communicate needs for hay and supplies in a timely fashion, and create staff and horse work schedules
    • Is able to stay calm, yet act quickly, under pressure to respond to various crises, such as equipment malfunctions, illness or injury to staff/clients/horses, or wildlife encounters
    • Is punctual, hardworking, and dedicated

    Housing available, meals provided. Salaried position, DOE but starting at $2,000/Monthly plus tips, room, and board. Current CPR, WFA, and Food Handlers Safety Certifications preferred.

  • Mule Packer

    The start dates are flexible but would be roughly June 15th -October 31st for two positions. The pay will vary by experience. Packers can expect to work out of the Swan Valley near Condon, MT, and work in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Packers can expect to work long hours, 6 days a week and sometimes more. Room and board (canvas wall tents) is included in the job and prior experience is required. Packers are required to care for stock including feeding, watering and doctoring as well as cleaning, adjusting, and maintaining equipment and saddles. We are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, years of experience with stock, don’t mind solitude, and strong customer service skills. 

  • Purchasing Manager

    Employment has the opportunity of lasting April-November, 5 days a week during the busy season. Location varies between the Swan Valley and Flathead Valley, and a valid driver’s license is required. Duties include inventorying stock of food and supplies, generating shopping lists, shopping for goods in store, placing bulk orders online and by phone, receiving shipments and distributing goods to various locations. Must have excellent organizational skills, have basic computer skills, be able to work independently most of the time, and possess strong communication skills. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds as this job has physically demanding days. Prior cooking experience is highly desired as this position has the potential to be combined with some camp cooking (front country); serving family or buffet-style meals to 10-20 people at a time. Salary will depend on and experience but could start at $2000 per month.  Room and board may be an option. 

  • Camp Cook

    This cook will prepare family or buffet style meals for staff and clients, serving 10-20 people at a time. This cook’s kitchen is a canvas wall tent equipped with electricity, a cold water pump, fire pit, and propane grill. The cook will be responsible for inventorying supplies and communicating grocery orders to management. Cooks must be able to modify dishes to cater to individuals with any specific dietary needs (i.e. diabetic, vegetarian, medical-related food needs, etc.). The cook will be responsible for keeping a clean facility and ensuring that food and food waste is safely stored or disposed of to prevent wildlife encounters.  Employee housing (canvas wall tent with wood stove) available. Seasonal position from May- September.

  • Corral Manager

    This position is designed to support the owners and general manager at our Swan Valley location (between Swan Lake, MT and Condon, MT). This location serves daily trail rides and pack trips to guests as well as hosts a wilderness guide school. The corral manager will help coordinate schedules of guides and cooks and ensure they align with the needs of guest trips and anyone hosted in camp. They will greet and check in arriving guests. They will also answer the phone and use the computer-based reservation system to book trips. Prior horse/mule experience required as the corral manager will schedule stock use, feed the stock (using heavy equipment), and administer equine first aid. Prior experience with farm/ranch equipment, trucks, and stock trailers is preferred. The corral manager must also be organized, attentive to detail, and have excellent communication skills. Employees at this location are housing in wall tents. Local applicants with reliable transportation preferred, due to limited employee housing. Wage depends on experience.

  • Pack Trip Guide

    We are looking for individuals that have worked in the guiding industry before, preferably in a backcountry setting. Pack trip guides will work out of the Swan Valley and Bob Marshall Wilderness. We are looking for individuals with extensive horsemanship experience, packing experience, customer service skills who have a strong work ethic and a passion for the outdoors which they enjoy sharing with their guests. When not on backcountry pack trips, guides may lead day trip horseback trail rides and fishing trips. The individual must have WFA certification and on the job experience leading or assisting on roving or stationary pack trips on horseback. Preference for candidates who have fishing guiding skills. Start and end dates will vary depending on position but will be roughly June 15th-Sept 15th, possibly extending to Nov 30th depending on work performance and if the applicant has the experience or potential to move into a role as a big game hunting guide. Salary will depend on experience but could start at $2000 per month, plus tips, room and board. 

  • Llama Trekking Guide

    Swan Mountain Llama Trekking is looking for guides for the 2021 (June-September) summer season! Based out of Swan Lake, Montana, treks will take place in the beautiful Flathead National Forest and Bob Marshall Wilderness. We are looking for passionate, hardworking people with a love of the outdoors and a desire to share it with others. Great customer service and strong communication skills are a must. Treks range from single day to backcountry multi day, and employees are responsible for the preparation and execution of gear and food for clients and stock on trips. This is a physically strenuous job and applicants must be in good hiking shape as treks can take place in steep and rugged terrain. Applicants must possess a valid drivers license and trailer experience is preferred. Experience with the care and keeping of llamas is preferred, but general livestock experience is needed. Salary depends on experience but starts at $2,000 per month. Room and board can be arranged if needed.

  • Roving Pack Trip Guide

    We are looking for individuals that have worked in the outfitting industry before, preferably in a backcountry setting. We are looking for individuals with extensive horsemanship experience, packing experience, customer service skills who have a strong work ethic and a passion for the outdoors which they enjoy sharing with their guests. Experience fly-fishing or fishing guiding is preferred as that is the focus of our summer trips. The individual must have WFA certification and on the job experience leading or assisting on roving or stationary pack trips on horseback. Start and end dates will vary depending on position but will start roughly June 15th-Sept 15th and possibly longer depending on performance. If individuals have experience as hunting guides they will potentially have the opportunity to stay on payroll through Nov 30th. Salary will depend on experience but will start at $2,000 per month with room and board included and the opportunity for tips.

  • Backcountry Manager

    Salmon Forks Outfitters is hiring a backcountry manager for the 2021 season. Salmon Forks Outfitters operates fishing trips, roving trips, backcountry hunts, and drop camps in the Bob Marshall Wilderness out of Meadow Creek Trailhead. We are looking for a seasoned veteran that has worked in the backcountry in horseback-based outfitting operations in the past. The backcountry manager is responsible for 4-7 staff and 4-8 guests at a time. Functioning as a wilderness trip leader, this individual must be physically able to to spend up to 10 days riding, hiking, and camping in a wilderness setting. They must have excellent customer service and communication skills to ensure client and staff satisfaction and safety. The backcountry manager must also have good logistics to plan and prepare for trips. They will work closely with the trailhead manager, purchasing manager, and general manager to stockpile hay and other food and supplies. The individual must have extensive skills in horsemanship, packing, fishing, hunting guiding, customer service, logistics and management. Room and board is included in the pay. The start and end dates will run roughly from June 25th -Oct. 31st. Salary will depend on experience and work load but would start at $3500 per month. 

  • Backcountry Mule Packer

    The dates for this position are flexible but would be roughly June 15th –Oct 1st. The pay will vary by experience but could start at $2000.
