Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) is a municipal transit service operated by the City of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  At 6,700 ft in the Rocky Mountains, this northwest Colorado community offers year-round recreation — including mountain trails for hiking and biking, pro-rodeo grounds, and an Olympic ice arena. Seasonal Entry Level – Summer Seasonal City Transit Bus Driver

Steamboat Springs Transit is looking to fill bus driver positions paid at $24.18 an hour for the upcoming summer season with safe and reliable drivers.  Our summer season will run from Mid-April to Late November.

If you already have the correct driver’s license (CDL B with passenger endorsement), you will not have to attend the full training class.  You will have the opportunity to test out of the class after learning our policies and procedures.  Full pay at $24.18 is available to those already licensed and they must test out of training before April 24th, 2023. 

If you do not already have the correct CDL license, the process begins with our paid training class that will begin on April 24th, 2023.  The 4-week, 160-hour training class is designed to help anyone obtain their Colorado CDL Class B driver's license as well as learn everything you need to have a successful season of city bus driving.  We will pay you $20.72 an hour to attend the CDL/training class.  Once you successfully obtain your CDL and pass the training class, you will be promoted to the seasonal bus driver and paid $24.18 an hour for the remainder of the summer season.

The typical working week is a minimum of 37 hours spread over four days or five.  The newer bus drivers usually work weekends & nights. The bus service runs from 5:00am to 12:40am daily. 

Our bus drivers are responsible for safely operating a public transportation bus and transporting passengers on a prescribed route, on time and in accordance with local, state, and federal standards.  Our drivers must practice safe defensive driving techniques, be knowledgeable of the area, provide guests with schedule & route information, assist disabled guests on and off the bus, and complete reports of all accidents, damage, or incidents.  Our bus drivers will also be assigned to bus-wash duties as part of their normal working shift. 

Successful applicants will need to have...

• An acceptable driving record, with no alcohol- or drug-related convictions in the last 7 years.
• A current valid driver's license.
• A clean background check. 
• An ability to commit to the entire season: Late-February to mid-November.
• The ability to pass all DOT CDL requirements including medical screening, random drug testing, and licensing requirements.
• The ability to maintain a positive friendly attitude with all bus passengers. 

Employee housing will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and rental rates will vary.  All City of Steamboat Springs employees have free access to Howelsen Hill Recreation Area & Ice Rink.
