BAKER/COOK JOB DESCRIPTION

Sorrel River Ranch is a Four Diamond luxury guest ranch located along the scenic Colorado River surrounded by 2,000-foot high cliffs, buttes and mesas. This exclusive 240-acre riverside oasis is 17 miles from Moab, 21 miles from Arches National Park and 43 miles from Canyonlands National Park. JJ’s Mercantile, located along scenic Highway 128, is a country store reminiscent of days gone by. A one-stop-shop for groceries from farm-fresh vegetables, eggs and butter to daily made bread, treats, snacks and necessities along with curated gifts, camping gear and Sorrel River Ranch and JJ’s Mercantile branded tees and more.

We are looking for a passionate Baker/Cook to prepare a variety of upscale to-go foods and desserts for our grab-and-go bakery/cafe.

Your skill in crafting a menu, creating delicious sandwiches, wraps, salads, and other grab and go foods, as well as baking high quality breads and treats should be matched by your creativity to develop new amazing tastes and recipes.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in multiple areas of the culinary arts with a passion for exceeding guests expectations with your creations. They must adhere to health and safety standards to provide clients with the best possible serving.

The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction so that we can maintain and expand our clientele. Candidate will demonstrate and help maintain high standards that consistently exceed the expectations of guests as well as control the resources, manage the processes and cultivate the understanding of good food throughout the resort.

 

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic kitchen equipment operation: stoves, ovens, broilers, slicers, fryers, steamers, kettles, etc.

  • Understanding of recipe measurements, requisition amounts and portion sizes. 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience required.

  • Culinary or Apprenticeship program preferred.

  • Working knowledge of the fundamentals of food preparation and cooking.

  • Working knowledge on accepted standards of sanitation.

  • Ability to work at a rapid pace while maintaining attention to detail; ability to multitask.

  • Must have good communication.

  • Possesses and exhibits the drive to provide exceptional service.

  • Must be able to stand/walk for 8 hours; bend, push, pull; lift 50 lbs.

  • Proficient in computer skills including POS systems, Word and Excel.

  • Must be flexible and able to adjust to meet the changing needs of guests.

  • Must be able to tolerate pressure and work calmly and efficiently during busy times.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist in delivering high quality bakery and pastry products.

  • Preference in European/French style baking.

  • Ensures that all bakery pastry preparation and presentation and kitchen sanitation practices meet with our standards and state guidelines.

  • To conduct frequent walk through inspections together with the Director of the Food & Beverage and Executive Chef.

  • To be available and on duty during peak periods (frequently opening and closing the operation).

  • To spend time in the outlets (during peak periods) to ensure quality presentation of bakery and pastry products to meet all expectations.

  • To ensure that Bakery and Pastry team project a warm, professional and welcome image.

  • To ensure that all Kitchen forms and reports are forwarded on time to the Food & Beverage Office.

  • To ensure accurate maintenance of recipes, conversion recipes, and product specifications.

  • Ensure that all recipes are followed strictly in order to achieve consistency of product and service.

  • To keep Food & Beverage employees up to date with seasonally available products and new products on the market.

  • Attend weekly Food & Beverage Meeting.

  • To ensure the smooth operation of the department.

  • Manage needed supplies and inventory levels.

  • Assess the quality of raw materials before baking.

  • Conduct research to develop original recipes for products.

  • Ensure the proper storage of baking utensils.

  • To undertake any reasonable tasks and secondary duties as assigned by the Executive Chef.

We have limited rental housing available on a first come, first served basis.
Starting rate of pay will be based on level of experience.
