About Silver Bay YMCA

The staff is diverse in age, nationality and background.  Silver Bay offers a variety of programmatic activities including children's programs, swimming, boating, fitness classes, indoor climbing, tennis, hiking, lectures, string quartet concerts, and the craft shop. Silver Bay has been offering hospitality to conferences and families for 115 years.

It’s amazing how transformational a seasonal job can be, whether it’s immersing yourself in the beauty of Lake George or soaking up all that Silver Bay has to offer.  Silver Bay’s Emp (employee) program has been impacting lives for over 100 years.

The Employee Experience

Room and Board

Housing and meals are included.  Employees live in dormitories; most rooms are doubles with a shared bath on the hall.  Each dorm is its own little community, young adults, couples, families, retirees. 

Meals are served buffet style in the dining hall, along with the guests.  Silver Bay also runs a pizza and ice cream shop which Employees frequent throughout the summer.

Employee Perks

Employee Recreation Center (ERC)… Built by the staff over 60 years ago the ERC is a building with an old steamship dock that stretches into Lake George, it is solely for the use by our staff with its own swim area, sand volleyball court and pool table.  The ERC provides a haven from your daily work.

Reciprocal Passes… Over 25 organizations across the Adirondack Park from Six Flags Great Escape to the Shelburne Museum where staff receive up to 4 free guest passes to these attractions.

Scholarships…  Silver Bay has a couple of scholarships. Last year 8 individuals received approximately $8,000 in scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500.

Gratuities…  All staff receive a portion of the gratuities collected during their employment.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Silver Bay is located 90 miles from Albany, NY.  Silver Bay provides transportation for staff at the beginning and end of the season to and from: Albany Airport, Albany Train Station, Albany Bus Station and Lake George Village Bus Station. Staff is welcome to bring their cars. Silver Bay is located 12 miles from Ticonderoga, NY which provides basic shopping and 45 miles from Glens Falls, NY which has a variety of stores, movie theaters and restaurants.

For Fun

Anything our guests can do our staff can do….  From boating to the craft shop. Check out our website to see what’s available.

Programs and Activities just for Emps…Dances, volunteer opportunities, performing on stage for variety shows or the annual musical, leadership development workshops, interest groups, dodge-ball…  Silver Bay mirrors a college campus from our own student government called Emps Council to learning opportunities to just plain fun.

EMPLOYMENT SEASONS:
Early Crew May 14 - June 17
Summer Crew June 17 - August 20
Late Summer Crew August 20 - September 4
Late Crew September 4 - October 15
Late Late Crew October 15 - November 19
Staff can work any combination of the above seasons and may rotate positions based on season.
