Saguaro Lake Ranch

The Sonoran Desert is Calling You this Winter

Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, originally established in 1930.

Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch is 45 minutes east of Metropolitan Phoenix. Located in the Sonora Desert of the Tonto National Forest, we operate under a National Forest operation's permit.

About Saguaro Lake Ranch

The ranch offers lodging & meals, exclusive corporate team building/training events, destination weddings, private family reunions or school tour groups with on & offsite recreational activities. In between our group events, we offer Bed & Breakfast lodging to individuals. We have 20 cabins with an average occupancy of 35 to 50 guests at a time.

Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch history started in 1928 as the work camp for the builders of Stewart Mountain Dam. This dam was part of the National Reclamation Act of 1903 and was completed in 1930. At this time the temporary structures were procured and became the lodge and cabins that we still use today. The owners have worked very hard to preserve as much ranch history as possible. This gives you the feeling of going back in time when life didn’t seem so busy or complicated. Probably the most appealing aspect of the ranch is the natural beauty of the “Bulldog cliffs” – which are actually the north edge of the Goldfield Mountains. The Goldfield Mountains are famous for the very rich, high-grade gold ore found beginning in 1892 thru 1897 with the mines giving out only five years after being tapped.

The Employee Experience

People, people, people...that's what Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch is all about, Including both guests and staff! This is a special place with special people as we all work together helping guests with a focus on hospitality. Our small crew strives for a positive and uplifting atmosphere. We work hard, but we work together! As staff, you become a major part of the guests ranch experience and not just another worker. You have an opportunity to interact with the guests no matter what your duty is, and that seems to be what many guests enjoy most along with the spectacular natural beauty.

Ideal Candidate

Essential personal qualities are: Positive, enthusiastic, outgoing, love of the outdoors, imaginative and know how to enjoy yourself no matter where you are.

Essential working qualities are: Hard working, self-starter, attention to detail, self-motivated, flexible and able to multi-task, communicates well with the public in person and on the phone.

Those who love the ranch experience the most also love the outdoors and people. You have a positive attitude and see the best in those around you – the guests as well as your co-workers. You know how to work hard and at the same time you enjoy the quiet of the beauty around you. Often times you'll enjoy the after hours sitting by the fire with our guests and just visiting. It’s part of being in the hospitality industry, especially if living onsite.

Room and Board

Housing:  We have 1 space left for onsite housing.

Meals: Included for those living on site provided by our kitchen crew. We do our very best to accommodate meal preferences with our guests and staff; however, if you have very specific tastes it may be a challenge for you as kitchen time is limited. On occasion, if we are not serving dinner to the guests you may need to provide your own dinner, but will have use of the kitchen to do so. A shared refrigerator is available for onsite staff.

Onsite employees may be required to cover a 4 to 5-hour evening shift as part of their housing allowance. This would be a front desk shift – answering the phone, taking a reservation, and assisting with late check-ins or guest services (getting ice, gift shop sales, and general questions).

Getting Here and Getting Around

Having a vehicle is a must as public transportation options are only available in Mesa or Fountain Hills located 20 minutes away. Even though there is much to enjoy at the ranch there are times that you will want / need to go offsite for recreation or errands.

For Fun

Home at the ranch activities: Even though we are only a 20 - 25 minutes from the nearest cities (Mesa or Fountain Hills) being located in the Tonto National Forest we still enjoy a rural location. The ranch is located along the Salt River, with horse trails and hiking trails right onsite. Saguaro Lake with a full service marina is just one mile from us offering boating options as well.

Nearby offsite attractions: The ranch is in a great location for 1 or 2 day trips. Some close by attractions include: 1 hour drive to being in the pines (Payson, AZ) 1 hour from sporting events / Museums, Concerts / and from downtown Historic Scottsdale Arizona. 1 hour drive to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and Botanical Garden. 2 hours from Tucson Arizona – with the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. 2.5 hours from Sedona, Arizona with the amazing Red Rock State Park or Jerome, Arizona an old mining ghost town. 3 hour drive along the famous Apache Trail. This is the #2 attraction for Arizona, second to the Grand Canyon for our European guests. 5 hours from the Grand Canyon itself.
