Weeds and Range Intern - BLM Little Snake Field Office

AmeriCorps Weeds and Range interns will serve with experienced Bureau of Land Management (BLM) crew leads and specialists to conduct range monitoring and noxious weed treatments. Under the direction of a BLM crew lead and specialists, members will perform noxious weed treatments using herbicides and mechanical methods. Various habitat and range monitoring includes vegetation monitoring using line point intercept and utilization. Installing and monitoring range cages will also be performed. BLM specialists will provide training and personal protective equipment (if necessary). An approximate breakdown of duties will be 50% weeds and 50% Range monitoring. The typical schedule will consist of 4 ten-hour days.

Applicants should be aware that there are multiple partnerships between organizations involved in overseeing this position. While applicants are hired and paid through RMYC, the office and field work take place on BLM property. Because of this, members are required to pass a background check for each organization and take government-specific training to access government buildings and computer networks. The member’s supervisor is a full-time BLM employee, and the members will spend the entire summer serving directly under this person.
