Distillery Tasting Room Host

Compensation:  Hourly ($14/hr.) plus tips

Schedule: up to 40 Hours (April-Sept.) and up to 25 hrs. Oct.-March

Port Chilkoot Distillery is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, honest, and self-driven individual that can provide friendly and engaging customer service to all patrons who visit our tasting room establishment.  Regular weekly work schedule will be a 6 – 8-hour shift, scheduled between the hours of 11am – 10pm, 4 – 5 days a week.  Applicants with previous service experience are preferred.

Job Description

The Tasting Room Host will open, operate, and/or close the Tasting Room for designated hours, providing visitors with a fun, comfortable, and informative experience.  Prepare and serve product samples and custom cocktails, maintain cleanliness and order, engage with visitors to provide information about the products and distillery, and ensure legal requirements are followed in the tasting room.  Work with other bartenders during double-shifts.  Reports directly to the Tasting Room Manager.

Job Expectations

  • Set up tasting room at beginning of shift:
    • Including but not limited to:  Setting up tables and seating, juicing citrus, making syrups, preparing liquor infusions, preparing cleaning water, stocking ice, and polishing glassware.
  • Clean up and close tasting room at end of day
    • Including but not limited to cleaning barware, getting items prepped for following day, sweeping, and mopping.
  • Serve cocktails, spirits, non – alcoholic drinks, and food offerings.
  • Engage with guests to provide informative and interesting information about our spirits, our business, and the community of Haines
  • Provide customers with detailed information about the distilled spirits, how they are produced, and how they taste
  • Assist Tasting Room Lead with dishwashing, serving drinks, cleaning tables and processing transactions during the shift
  • Sell bottles and distillery merchandise
  • Ensure legal requirements for tasting rooms are being adhered to.
  • Count the till and keep current hours and reported tips on spreadsheet.
  • Local shopping for items needed for daily operations
  • Assist with other distillery operations as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Bartending experience preferred.
  • Tasting room, bartending, hospitality, or retail experience required. 
  • Highly-skilled in customer service, communication, presentation and sales.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have or be able to qualify for a TAP card.
  • Must be able to work independently, without supervision.
  • Must be available to work weekends and event days throughout the year (First Fridays, Beer Fest, Bike Race, State Fair)
  • Standing and walking for an extended period.
