The successful applicant must be truly comfortable talking to many people day in and day out. You must be comfortable being in complete control of daily guided rides and ensuring the safety, comfort and enjoyment of our guest and the horses. 

Gather horses from pasture, saddle and bridle horses, mount riders, lead guest trail rides. Care for 10-14 head of horses, including daily brushing, grooming, feeding, watering and some veterinary work. Other duties include tack upkeep and repair, fencing and fence repair, corral maintenance, barn and barnyard cleanup and trail maintenance. Considerable horse experience is required. 

Responsibilities

  • Gather horses from pasture daily and early in the morning.
  • Catch, tie, saddle, and unsaddle horses daily.
  • Feed and water horses daily.
  • Assist guests in mounting and dismounting horses.
  • Lead safe and interesting trail rides.
  • Monitor horses for lameness and injury.
  • Perform minor veterinary work when needed.
  • Repair and/or erect corrals and fences when needed.
  • Clear trails of fallen timber and debris.
  • Must be comfortable using a chainsaw.
  • Maintain a clean barn and barnyard including manure pickup, sweeping, mopping, trash removal and tack organization.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy guest waiting area.
  • Dispose of trash in dumpster on a regular basis.
  • Regularly inspect and oil tack.
  • Must be able to truly handle a horse in a variety of situations, including on trails and open areas.
  • Must be able to mount and dismount without assistance.
  • Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with multiple guests on a daily basis.
  • Personable, organized and flexible to change.
  • Must be able to remain calm and problem solve in emergency situations with injured riders.
  • Must be able to memorize trails and navigate through miles of unmarked forest and mountain terrain.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Comfortable being exposed to and interacting with wild animals while remaining calm.
  • Protect the safety of self, co-workers ranch guests at all times.
  • Report safety-related accidents and incidents to management.
  • Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
  • Pay attention and consider safety at all times when handling and working around horses.
  • Consider safety first when leading rides.
  • Be flexible to changing schedules.
  • Represent the Ranch professionally and respectfully at all times.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must adhere to all grooming and appearance standards consistently.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
  • Perform physical activities such as lifting up to 50-100lbs, stooping, walking, standing, riding for extended periods of time.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • 3+ years of previous wrangler experience - extensive and considerable horse experience is required in all areas of horsemanship including riding, grooming, feeding, tack, minor veterinary care, etc.
  • CPR Certified.
