Outback Therapeutic Expeditions is a therapeutic wilderness program that helps struggling teens overcome life's difficulties. We empower our students through activities including hiking, primitive skills and therapy. We focus on an agentive model that helps our Field Staff and Therapists invite our students to work through the program and create healthy relationships with family and friends.
Our office is located in Lehi, Utah. Our field is located in the rustic and beautiful West Desert.

Outback staff receives training in primitive skills such as making wood-framed primitive backpacks, primitive musical instruments, leather working, friction bow drill fires, shelter building and Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.

Room and Board
Wilderness Field staff are responsible for their own housing during their 11.5 days off. While in the field during the 9.5-day rotation, you will be in the field night and day while Outback provides food and transportation.
We offer a weeklong paid training that includes an experiential camping experience in the field to see what your day to day will look like. We will train you how to camp, hike, and do primitive skills, as well as prepare you with safety training and communication skills to work with the students.
Great work/life balance with a schedule that allows for 11.5 days off in a row and around 200 days off a year.
We offer medical, vision, and dental benefits after 30 days and 401k after 60 days.

Getting Here and Getting Around
Wilderness Field staff are responsible for making it to the Field House in Lehi, Utah. Once there, we use company vehicles to drive to and from the field.
Utah has public transportation available and for those flying into Salt Lake City, there is a shuttle from the airport to the Field House.
Utah is an amazing place to experience many different elements of nature from the mountains to the desert lands. Only a half-hour drive takes you to the mountains for hiking, fishing, rock climbing, river rafting, and exploring what nature has to offer in the summertime with some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the winter. Salt Lake City is full of unexpected surprises and brims with history, art, culture, entertainment, and recreation - all in a beautiful location at the foot of Utah's Wasatch Mountains. Salt Lake combines the amenities of a large metro area with the opportunity to take advantage of year-round outdoor recreation within minutes in every direction.
