Outback Therapeutic Expeditions is offering a life changing career in wilderness therapy!

Our team is looking for dynamic field staff from all walks of life to inspire and guide our students. Our Field Staff team members are mentors that invite change in our 13- to 17-year-old students. Helping them develop resilience, critical thinking, and healthy coping skills to lead healthy lives!

If offered a position after the application and interview process, there will be a week-long paid training. The training is located in the field where you will get to experience what your day to day will look like.

We run year-round and are always looking for great candidates to add to our team! We also offer summer seasonal opportunities. 

  • Field Guide

    Field Staff
    $197.00 - $245.00 / day

    We Are Hiring Immediately! We are looking for great candidates to join our team for a week long PAID training from August 23rd - 28th!

    Benefits Include:

    • Easy to manage work/life balance with a schedule working 9.5 days followed by 11.5 completely off! (around 200 days off per year!)
    • Pay is competitive with Wilderness best practice with an opportunity to earn up to $245/day (with experience)

    • Age 21 minimum
    • Standard First Aid and CPR certified (can get certified in house prior to start date)
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Previous experience with youth required (21 days wilderness work, 60 days paid work or 90 days volunteer work with a church or other organization while you were 18 years or older)
    • Are physically able to maintain visual and auditory awareness of youth for safety

  • Associate Field Therapist

    Field Staff
    $44,000.00 - $53,000.00 / year

    Immediate Positions Available - Gain your clinical hours post-graduation in a year!

    The Associate Field Therapist collaborates with the Primary Therapist on how to empower adolescents, maintain a healthy and functioning group culture, and take therapeutic gains to the next level.

    We are located in Lehi UT and offer relocation reimbursement if this adventure sounds like it is for you!

    The Associate Field Therapist does this by:

    • Camping with a group of teens in the wilderness for 9.5 days followed by 11.5 days completely off (around 200 days off a year!)
    • Participating in the staffing milieu to ensure the highest safety standards are always maintained
    • Providing group and individual therapy sessions every day of your on-shift
    • Doing co-therapy with the primary therapist during their time in the field (this counts as supervision hours)
    • Helping students each day by providing skill-building techniques, psycho-education, crisis intervention, assessment, and continuity of care by being with the students before, during, and after the primary therapists meet with them each week


    • The starting annual earnings is $44,000 to $53,000
    • Dental, Health, Vision and 401k start 30 days after employment
    • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all Outback employees
    • Massive amounts of direct service hours and supervision hours that count toward licensure (usually gained in little over a year)
    • Relocation reimbursement


    • Applicants must be a minimum of a Master Level graduate working towards their licensure in Clinical Mental Health (CMHC), Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT/LMFT), or Social Work (MSW/LCSW). Certified Social Workers (CSW) also qualify for the position.
    • Must currently hold an entry level license with the state of Utah to practice mental health counseling under the guidance of a fully licensed clinician
    • CPR and First Aid certifications, we will assist in attaining these after interview/training
    • Are physically able to maintain visual and auditory awareness of youth for safety
