Welcome to One Legged Magpie!
Mike and I started Magpie almost 2 years ago. We offer a guest experience that transcends a traditional bar, cultivating community through peerless food and drinks, supporting local growers through seasonal menus, showcasing artists and creating a small town gathering space with a big city mission of quality and inclusion.
We landed in Red Lodge because of our love of the outdoors, whether it's skiing, hiking or biking, we are all in. We are open 5 days a week 5PM-close, allowing our staff to enjoy this beautiful place we call home. We are nestled in the beautiful Beartooth Mountains, surrounded by incredible hiking and biking trails, it's an easy day trip into Yellowstone or spend the day hiking with wild horses in the Bighorn Canyon. The ski hill, Red Lodge Mountain is 7 miles away, and there are endless nordic and backcountry trails to hit!
As we approach our two year mark, we want to elevate our program.
The One Legged Magpie is a craft cocktail bar and event space in Red Lodge, Mt. We are seeking a passionate and skilled chef to help transition our current food program from a pub concept to a more upscale dining concept. You will be responsible for menu development, recipe costing, and leading and training a team to deliver food that meets the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Create menus and daily specials.
- Cost recipes
- Oversee all kitchen operations.
- Lead, train and manage kitchen team.
- Perform weekly inventory and ordering.
- Enforce safety and sanitation standards in the kitchen.
- Work with managers to adhere to food and labor budgets.
- Receive feedback and make improvements where necessary.
Requirements:
- Culinary school degree/diploma preferred.
- Experience as a working chef or sous chef.
- Perfectionism in sanitation and quality control.
- Portfolio of creative, unique dishes.
- Great leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Exemplary work ethic
- Experience in catering events of 25-250 people
- Passion and pride for delighting people with food.

We have a 3,500 square foot main bar with a stage, offering frequent live shows, additionally, we have a 5,000 square foot ballroom and additional bar upstairs for private events and bigger shows.
We will have a couple of rooms in our 3 bedroom apartment end of September/beginning of October 1st for a subsidized rent of $500/mo.
