Job Start Date
Job Starts: May 10, 2025

North Haven Inn & Market is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our kitchen team full-time, five (5) shifts per week, including weekends, focusing mainly on breakfast.

The breakfast cook leads the day, starting early in the morning, baking fresh biscuits, building hot breakfast sandwiches, preparing pastries, baking bread, and preparing for lunch. This cook will work in conjunction with our Kitchen Manager and lunch cook.

Occasionally, this job will require filling in for co-workers, helping prep for extracurricular events, and assisting in the occasional dinner service.

Most afternoons are free to enjoy all the island has to offer.

We would love to hear from you if you are passionate about food - biscuits, bread, pastries, eggs, meats- and passionate about people - feeding them, creating a welcoming environment, and serving our local community.

Previous kitchen experience is a plus. People of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, be active learners/listeners, and be able to balance independent decision-making with collaboration. The flexibility to handle each situation that comes along in a calm manner is key; we support each other in honing and ripening these skills. We are solutions-oriented.

The Market kitchen is a small operation, one we consider to be a sanctuary. We believe the key to our success is the people, and as such, we are looking for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, and committed to contributing to an inclusive, respectful, fulfilling and fun work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepping, cooking, and assembling elements of various grab-and-go items.

  • Managing sourdough(s).

  • Keeping grab-and-go provisions stocked.

  • Maintaining a welcoming space to interact with customers and community members graciously, while answering their questions and comments succinctly.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Prior experience in a food service, agricultural, or health service environment.

  • Love for the kitchen flow - the long dance, the heat, the sensory pleasures, the physicality, the generosity, the repetition that teaches.

  • Ability to complete physical work. We lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs, work on our feet, and clean as we go.

  • A learning mindset, eager to find the opportunity in a mistake.

  • An ability to multitask, see the big picture, conceptualize an order of operations, and transition between different tasks with relative ease.

  • Good conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills, yet flexibility with the fluctuations cooking inevitably provides.

  • A kind and positive attitude.

  • Clear communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team. Our weekly schedule will provide both.

  • Alignment with Market Kitchen's vision and mission.
