DETAILED DAY BELOW

Beginning of the day

The driver will arrive 20 mins early to; pre-trip the vehicle, inspect the trailer, and load,” if there are boats on the trailer you may need the bucket of love” check the vehicle for cleanliness, check to make sure there are plenty of masks available for our guest, Wipe down the van with disinfectant. All of this is to be done before trip time

Guest Pick Up/ Drop Off

You are the first face our guest will see! You should be SMILING! You will make the first impression of NWA on our guest. You should be FRIENDLY, HELPFUL and ENGAGING! Drivers will park the vehicle in an easily accessible spot for our guest. Exit the vehicle, greet and open doors for the guest. Assist any guest that may need special help in the vehicle, or with their lodging. If they are missing guests the driver will search for the guest by checking with the front desk or other appropriate manners. If a guest can not be found the driver should immediately call the office. “Sometimes guests schedule a pickup but get themselves there.”

After waiting a predetermined time. Driver may have to leave an unloaded guest to keep on Schedule. This needs to be communicated with the office or MOD. Upon arrival at destinations the driver will park in an safe and appropriate spot for the guest to exit the vehicle. Then address the guest letting them know he/she will be opening the door. The driver will exit and open doors / put out step when needed for guests.

On The Deck

At the start of the trip, the Driver will assist in the suit room and with additional gear unless otherwise directed by the TL. It is important to note that the flow of the deck and gear distribution is under the direction of the TL. Example: do not start to stuff people into suits PFDs or the van without direction from the TL. Once the trip is 90% dressed or instructed by the TL the driver will move out to the front of the store to the vehicle. The driver Should be waiting outside the van to hold the door, help guests in, and offer/monitor masks. It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure everyone entering the vehicle has helped and mask on.

Starting 2021 we will be implementing a strategy to help keep the parking lot clear in front of our storefront. This will take the cooperation of the drivers and staff. The driver may be asked to relocate to a staging point after the guest has been dropped off to drop boats or stage temporarily to free up space. Before returning to pick up the guest and head to the river

In route to the put-in

Drivers will keep safety in mind at all times. Drivers will adhere to the Alaska state driving laws, including but not limited to staying under the speed limit, running headlight on the highway, using proper signaling, and maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front. If there are multiple vehicles on the trip they should always try to ride together whenever possible. If there are multiple vehicles on the trip the vehicle without a trailer always follows the one with a trailer. Always be courteous to other drivers when in an NWA vehicle.

At the put-in

Drivers will assist passengers out of the van. This followed by helping to pass out gear and leading passengers to a safe location away from the parking lot, vehicles, or other potential hazards. If boats are to be dropped the Driver will help with unloading and belaying the boats. As well as be on the lookout for potential hazards “such as a small child getting past the gate or a tourist stepping over the ropes”. Next, the drivers will help to rig boats for the trip. You will have plenty of time to gather up your straps and tidy up the trailer after you help rig the boats. Drivers will collect the safety orientation form and put it in a safe place to return it to the office at the end of the trip. Wildly drivers are to bring a camera and shoot photos of the guest.

In route to the take-out

Drivers are encouraged to follow along during the trip and to be seen by the guest whenever possible from the water. Example Razorback, Two Rocks, Cable Car, and The Lookout. Drivers on a Canyon Wave trip should be constantly checking for a vehicle with half a tank or less. Be sure to fill that vehicle at three bears on your way to the take out. Drivers are responsible to balance their route time and will ALWAYS have the van ready clean and waiting at the take out for the guest to arrive.

At the take-out

Drivers will ALWAYS have the van ready clean and waiting at the take-out for the guest to arrive. This includes being ready or leaving out new masks for those guests that may have misplaced or gotten their mask wet. Drivers will man the trailer helping to collect gear from the guest in an orderly manner. Drivers should let the guides assist the guest out of their suits unless asked to help directly. Drivers can be unhooking frames, moving oars to the trailer, and putting the first aid kit and other gear in the van. As well as help to load the boats on the trailer. After helping the guides to load and secure the boats the driver will check the load.
