We are a family run Resort, established. in 1931, this is our 87th season. Our guests are like family; it maybe their very first trip or their 50th, all greeted with a happy smile. We are located on Crane Lake in Minnesota, with access to to Voyageurs National Park - enjoying the peaceful, beautiful area in which we are located
About Nelsons Resort
Nelson's is the kind of resort that people return to year after year. It's kind of like the dirty dancing movie, but no skits or dance-offs but the same sort of family and friend summer Lake time FUN.
Many of our guests have been coming for generations, families that have been coming for 30, 40, 50 + years started out bringing their kids, then grandkids, then great grandkids ... it's their special place, together, in the peacefulness and beauty of the north woods, the elders believing if the children do not experience this beauty, they will never know it exists.
Our guests, as you already understand return year after year, but also many of the employees return as well, as working alongside us at "Nelson's" is like being part of the family, our crew members become lifelong friends to the employees but also to us. "Nelson's" consists of 26 lakeside cabins, full dining room, lounge, bar, marina and store, so there are many different employment opportunities which may suit you.
The Employee Experience
If you choose to come work with us at "Nelson's" you will receive a very special sense of purpose, working with our guests to ensure they have a wonderful stay, they will know your name, as well as you will know theirs by the end of the stay.
When your shift is over, you will get together with other employees and enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, berry picking, canoeing, walking, playing disc golf, cards or games. The Crews most often than not, become lifelong friends. When your employment period ends, many plan on returning for another season, which many do, but I can guarantee you will always have a place in your heart for "Nelson's".

Room and Board
We offer rooms at no charge, 100.00 deposit is required off of your 1st check, then returned at the end of employment, after inspection . Staff meals are provided at a charge of 150.00 per month.
The use of all resort facilities, and equipment can be enjoyed free of charge provided it does not interfere with the Guests. Employees immediate family can receive 25% off of lodging, subject to availability.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Nelson's is a drive-to resort, directions are on our website. Airport in Duluth MN and transportation can be arranged to bring you to Nelson's.
Let see, what is there fun to do here,well...... hiking, biking, swimming ,fishing, canoeing, boating, campfires, enjoying the Voyageurs National Park, Boundry Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) Enjoying all this with your new "work" family . Oh I almost left out that working at "Nelson's" is fun in it's self.
Our work weeks are set for 40 hours per week. In a resort atmosphere we all pitch in whenever and wherever necessary to get the job done. With that in mind, we are looking for applicants who are extremely flexible and like a variety of work.
We have a full scale nice little Bar, its helpful if you know a bit about drink making, beer,wine etc...but we can train on that part. Here also you need to be a friendly happy person as your the first one who will greet our guests coming to the dining room. You will also have folks wanting to eat in the bar area,so you will be serving also, unless the dining room servers are not busy. You would be responsible in keeping the back bar area clean. Also 1 day a week you will need to come and deep clean the floors in the back bar area.
You would provide services to marina customers as requested. Duties will include but are not limited to: fueling watercraft, assisting guests with the loading and unloading of luggage, building materials, and other miscellaneous cargo, driving, parking,and launching boats, interacting with guests in a professional manner, as well as vorious non-marina related chores when required. Gratuities are commonly rewarded by satisfied customers.
We are looking for a strong hands on Chef. Who has a positive attitude, handles challenges well, keeps a cool head and loves the kitchen.

Being a housekeeper at "Nelson's" is a energetic position, as you and your partner will grab your cart and head off down the path to the cabins that need either maid service or full clean after a departure. You need to know how to make beds, correctly, clean Kitchens and bathrooms to a sqeekie sparkling shine. Also window washing, brushing the cabin down,and sweeping porches. This person is responsible for the quests first impression of their cabin, and we have a reputation of have very nice clean cabins. Sometimes you will help in the laundry when needed and also in the cleaning of the Lodge. After you finish your shift, a jump in the lake always feels great!
As a kitchen assistant your job is to ensure that the kitchen is clean and operational. You need to understand the importance of health and hygiene, have plenty of stamina, be a great team player and have the ability to listen and learn -fast
Ensuring the food preparation areas are clean and hygienic
Washing utensils and dishes and making sure they are stored appropriately
Sorting, storing and distributing ingredients
Washing, peeling,chopping, cutting and helping to prepare salads and desserts
Disposing of rubbish
Cleaning the foods preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas
You would be performing maintenance and repairs to various small engine machines. Mostly outboard motors, I/Os, and lawn care machinery.
As a server, you will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in a semi formal atmosphere. Also on top of the serving duties you will be helping in the making of dressings, sauces, cookies and desserts. Also you will be helping keep the lodge and dining room clean. You have to be a positive people person to be in this position.
