Just 30 scenic miles north of Yellowstone National Park in Montana’s beautiful Paradise Valley, Mountain Sky Guest Ranch is the perfect place for the outdoor enthusiast. Horseback riders, hikers, mountain bikers, kayakers, fly-fisher folk, whitewater rafters, rock climbers and naturalists all find themselves drawn here season after season, along with the individuals who simply seek to live and work in a peaceful mountain setting in the heart of Yellowstone Country.
While the ranch opens May 1 and closes at the end of October, the bulk of our 80+ staff members work during our family season, which runs early-June through August. If you are a seasonal worker we encourage you to apply early as we are always looking for individuals who can work our expanding 6 month season. We have many positions available for those college students and others who are looking for 3 months of summer work, or a possible internship.

Mountain Sky boasts an 80% guest return rate year after year, and staff interaction with our guests is the single most important ingredient to our success. We’re looking for people who understand the importance of a friendly smile and a kind word. Our guests aren’t here to be served by a staff that is ‘seen but not heard’… they want to hear your story, share a laugh, and experience true western hospitality at its finest. Our staff members are personable, adventurous, hard-working, honest, and are willing to pitch in when they see that a helping hand is needed. Finally, we’re looking for people with a desire and a willingness to learn. Rather than departmentalize, we give our entry-level Guest Services staff the opportunity to work a variety of jobs in order to gain a better understanding of the operation as a whole, and to better prepare them for whatever may come in the future.
Room and Board
Room and board is provided to all Mountain Sky staff members. Staff accommodations are mostly communal (shared cabins) with private accommodations reserved for managers, returning senior employees or elder staff members. Mountain Sky provides linens, comforters, pillows, and towels for staff members. There is sufficient storage space on the ranch for personal belongings. There are two staff lodges on ranch which provide ample space for indoor recreation, along with a place to do laundry. Staff members are allowed to respectfully use all ranch facilities including our workout room, sauna, swimming pool, Jacuzzi and golf course.
Staff meals are provided 3 times per day in our staff dining room. Our hearty staff buffets provide a wide variety of options, and a refrigerator is kept fully stocked with food in the staff dining area for snacks, missed meals, and for the storage of specialty food items that staff members may purchase if they have strict dietary guidelines.
Not only do employees have access to the full facility, but they are also encouraged to participate in guest activities free of charge – so long as there is availability. Horseback rides, guided hikes, fly-fishing instruction, golf and whitewater rafting trips are just a few of the activities you’ll have the opportunity to experience.

Getting Here and Getting Around
Many staff members staying for the 3 month summer season choose to fly to Montana. The closest airport to Mountain Sky is in Bozeman, Montana (BZN), and we will provide ground transportation from the Bozeman airport to Mountain Sky once we have your flight details.
If you are staying with us for the entire six months, or want a bit more independence to explore the area, bringing a car to the ranch is the best option. Many staff carpool to the ranch from all over the country – a great way to get to know your coworkers while saving some gas money!
There are plenty of opportunities for adventure in the heart of Yellowstone Country. The Gallatin National Forest (just a 10 minute walk from our lodge), Yellowstone National Park, the Absaroka-Beartooth Mountains, the Crazy Mountains, the Bridger Mountains, and the Gallatin Canyon area all provide excellent opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, and camping. Big Creek and the mighty Yellowstone River offer fishing, rafting, and kayaking opportunities. Livingston is a 45 minute drive, and offers a quaint downtown with great restaurants and a vibrant artistic community. Bozeman is an hour drive, and is home to Montana State University and the Museum of the Rockies, as well as a great variety of coffee shops, stores, restaurants and bars. Local haunts like the Pine Creek Lodge, The Old Saloon in Emigrant, and Chico Hot Springs are always staff favorites, and feature live music and great food without the long drive.
Our three month positions will run June 3rd (the start of staff orientation) through August 26th (the final day of the summer season). Our full guest season runs May 1st - mid-October, and we have work available as early as mid-April, and as late as November 1.
Responsible for the upkeep of lawns, buildings, swimming pool, occasional dishwashing, and the transportation of our guests in 14 passenger vans. Must be 21, have a clean driving record, and be comfortable with and able to operate heavy mowing equipment and other machinery. 4 – 6 month positions available. June 3 to August 26 at minimum, with a start date as early as May 1 and an end date as late as October 31. Preference given for full season availability.
The ultimate variety job! The largest workforce on the ranch, this 25 person crew rotates through our dining room, housekeeping department and kids program on a shift-to-shift basis, with one dishwashing shift per week. Depending upon interest and skill set, an additional shift or two per week might be spent leading hikes, transporting guests in passenger vans, working in the gift shop, helping with landscaping, and more. 3 – 6 month positions available. June 3 to August 26 at minimum, with a start date as early as May 1 and an end date as late as October 31.
Responsible for the preparation of ingredients for dishes prepared by our kitchen team, with tremendous opportunity for growth under an Executive Chef who fosters an environment of teamwork and learning. 3 – 6 month positions available. June 3 to August 26 at minimum, with a start date as early as May 22nd and an end date as late as October 31.
Successful candidates for this position will work with nonprofit organizations who utilize the Challenge Course and Basecamp property as a tool for their program enhancement. The position will be responsible for challenge course facilitation, and assisting in maintenance of Basecamp and Challenge Course properties, as needed. This is a seasonal position operating Mid-April through Mid-October, 2018.
Facilitators will receive mandatory challenge course and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) training on and off-site from Mid-April through May, 2018. Upon successful completion of training, Challenge Course Facilitators will be available to assist the American Explorers Basecamp in conducting sessions on a mutually agreed-upon schedule.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Inspect Challenge Course and PPE pre and post use
- Develop daily curriculum according to specific group needs/ abilities
- Set up and take down challenge course elements
- Perform/Assist in Technical Rescues
- Work with others to build a comfortable, trusting and challenging environment with guests
- Create a positive working relationship with other employees of the family of businesses (i.e. West Creek Ranch, Mountain Sky Guest Ranch, etc.)
- Upkeep of Grounds and Maintenance
- Occasional office work possible
- Occasional Grounds and Maintenance work at Basecamp
Qualifications and Skills
- An interest in working with diverse groups; youth, adult, and at-risk and/or disabled populations
- An aptitude for managing risk, and an awareness of one’s surroundings
- Facilitation Experience to include:
- Initiative Games
- Challenge course experience (high or low elements)
- Team Building and leadership
- Certification by PVM of ACCT
- Ability to adapt plans to groups needs
- Experience or interest in working at height
- Ability to work outdoors in a full range of weather conditions
- Enjoys working with others to complete a common goal
- CPR/First aid required (will assist in acquisition for the right candidate) WFR preferred
- Background in education, outdoor recreation, group management/facilitation preferred
This hybrid position combines work in Guest Services with oversight of our Teen Program. Works directly with the Kids Program Director to engage and entertain our teen guests, ages 13+, with adventures including - but not limited to - photo scavenger hunts, trips to the Boiling River in Yellowstone, high adventure on our ropes course, evenings at our clay shooting range, and more! Must be 21 or older with a clean driving record to transport participants to various off-site activities in large passenger vans. Prior experience working with this age group is preferred, and strong consideration is given to applicants with climbing and/or high ropes course experience. May 22 to August 26 at minimum, with a start date as early as April 1 and an end date as late as October 31.
This position will assist the Executive Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, including the preparation of hot and cold foods for banquet-style meals, receiving food orders, maintaining the highest in food and sanitation standards, and running the kitchen in the executive chef's absence. 6 mo.
Responsible for oversight of our guest and staff dining rooms, as well as our outdoor 'meal ride' experiences. In the guest dining room, we serve a buffet-style breakfast and lunch, then offer a multi-course, casual fine dining experience for dinner. Key duties include staff training, management of Guest Services staff as they rotate in and out of the dining department, communicating guest needs to the kitchen staff, and organizing and maintaining the guest and staff dining rooms. While related experience is preferred, this is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for customer service to develop management skills. Position runs April 16 – October 31.
Assists the Dining Room Manager in all aspects of running our guest and staff dining rooms, as well as our outdoor 'meal ride' experiences. Assists the housekeeping manager with training, guiding and scheduling housekeeping personnel, upholding 4-diamond standards in a resort ranch environment, upkeep of laundry, inventory and ordering. Daily housekeeping duties required. Runs the department in the manager's absence. 6 month position.
This position will work with and manage our guest services staff, in order to provide our younger guests with the vacation experience of a lifetime. Must have a deep love of water balloons, fairy princesses and battles with trolls and/or aliens. Must be available to work at least our 3 month summer season.

Will perform general front desk duties, provide unsurpassed customer service in a fast-paced environment, and communicate guest needs to various departments. Must be available to work May 22 through September 2nd at a minimum, with work in Guest Services available in May, September, and October to supplement the full season. GREAT opportunity to move into a year-round position.
This position can be worked in conjunction with several ranch positions, and simply requires you to have your own camera equipment. Our ranch photographer works hard to capture the guest experience, and these photos are provided as keepsakes for our guests, utilized for marketing and social media, and are occasionally utilized for artwork. This role will assist the ranch photographer in capturing a few ranch events each week, and is a great opportunity to hone your skills. June 3 to August 26 at minimum, with a start date as early as April 1 and an end date as late as October 31.
The position will serve as an experienced member of the technical support team and will provide all aspects of client support to meet the needs of our associates. This will include support and device management for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers & multifunction copiers, phones, and audio-visual systems. This person will be a primary contact for support at our Mountain Sky and West Creek properties and may also work with our support team to provide assistance for our other locations.
This position requires a high-energy individual who has a passion for this field of work and the ability to be a self-starter. It requires you to take initiative in planning, implementing, and troubleshooting the client support environment within the businesses. You will work with others in the team to ensure a secure computing environment across the enterprise. This position will work closely with the rest of our IT teams in Atlanta to assist with escalated issues and ensure standards are being followed in IT operations.
Must be able to carry a cell phone and respond quickly to occasional requests for critical assistance (24 x 7). Working select weekends will be required. Travel between our different Montana properties in Emigrant, Montana will be required. Occasional travel to our headquarters in Atlanta will be required (1-2 times per year).

The ideal wrangler candidate will demonstrate both excellent customer service and strong horsemanship skills. Wranglers will lead rides on 17,000 private acres, in addition to the neighboring Gallatin National Forest. Trail rides aren’t your typical nose-to-tail walking dude rides; Our guests stay for a week at a time, and they come to ride! We lead walk, trot, and lope rides, all with a heavy instruction component. A riding video will be required from applicants not able to join us for a live riding interview, but it is not necessary to submit the video with your initial application. 3 – 7 month positions available. May 15 to August 26 at minimum, with a start date as early as April 1 and an end date as late as October 31.
