Step back to the future on Maine's most famous island!
Monhegan House is our island's oldest continually run guest lodging and has been welcoming seasonal visitors since the 1870's. Offering 28 casually comfortable rooms and exceptional cuisine, our customers value our clean and simple accommodations as well as our hospitable staff.
The Monhegan House is located on Monhegan Island, ten miles out to sea. A small (about 1,000 acres, approximately 1-1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide) coastal Maine island with a tiny year round community. More than 75% of the island is comprised of untouched wildlands protected by a local land trust. Access is by privately run ferry services from three separate mainland locations.
About Monhegan House
We operate a takeout facility which serves pizza, salads, sandwiches, ice cream and more. We also host events such as weddings as well as painting workshops, birdwatching groups and even knitting, yoga and energy/wellness medicine retreats. We are noted for our food as well as our cleanliness and friendly atmosphere. More than half of our customers are repeats who look forward to their visit as they have become part of the family.
We are committed to making every customer feel right at home whether they are visiting for the first time or returning year after year.
Many of our employees cite a season at Monhegan House as one of the most unique and rewarding experiences they've had. Whether they were seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of the city or were looking to pursue their passion for painting, they managed to spend a summer making new friends, enjoying the outdoors and learning to manage life on a small, remote island.
The Employee Experience
Experience the miles of trails through unspoiled wildlands. Take a picnic to the backside and its majestic shoreline. Discover your inner artist. Follow the spring and fall songbird migration. Check out a favorite author from our library and read it next to the surf at Lobster Cove.
