Status: Hourly • Seasonal / Full-Time
General Function
This position supports the Port Engineer and Operations team by helping with basic vessel maintenance, mainly oil changes, filters, fluid checks, and simple mechanical tasks. This is a hands-on role that helps keep vessels ready for daily operations through routine service and light repair work.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should be able to:
Perform basic mechanical tasks such as oil changes, tightening fittings, replacing filters, etc.
Follow instructions and work safely around tools, equipment, and vessels
Lift and move up to 50–70 lbs
Work outdoors in Alaska weather conditions
Pass a pre-employment drug test (per company policy)
Hold or be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification (training provided)
No advanced marine or engineering experience required.
Mechanical aptitude is a plus, and all vessel-specific training is provided on the job.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, greasing, and basic mechanical tasks
Help organize and restock spare parts and supplies
Keep maintenance tools, storage areas, and shop spaces clean and organized
Assist Port Engineer with simple repair tasks as directed
Communicate clearly with Captains and crew about maintenance status and upcoming needs
Help monitor and report any unusual noises, leaks, or issues found during routine checks
Occasionally assist onboard as a deckhand if needed (training provided)
Support the crew with keeping vessels clean and ready for tours
Assist with basic troubleshooting of small issues during operations (with guidance)
Work Environment & Expectations
Must be able to work variable hours during peak season
Must be comfortable working in rain, wind, and marine environments
Must be reliable, on time, and ready to work hands-on
