Position Summary

The General Store Deli Retail Clerk plays an important role in both the deli and retail operations of the General Store. This position helps create an exceptional guest experience by preparing and serving deli items, maintaining attractive retail displays, stocking merchandise, operating the cash register, and ensuring the store remains clean, organized, and fully stocked.

This is a hands-on position where no two days are the same. You'll assist guests, prepare fresh food, monitor inventory, stock shelves, and help maintain the welcoming atmosphere that makes our General Store a favorite stop for visitors.

The ideal candidate has a passion for customer service, enjoys working as part of a team, and takes pride in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare, package, and serve deli food while following food safety and sanitation standards.
  

• Operate deli equipment safely and efficiently.
  

• Provide friendly, professional customer service to every guest.
  

• Greet customers and assist them with retail purchases and product questions.
  

• Operate the cash register and accurately process transactions.
  

• Stock shelves, coolers, displays, and merchandise throughout the store.
  

• Receive, unload, and organize incoming inventory.
  

• Rotate products using FIFO methods and monitor expiration dates.
  

• Ensure all merchandise is properly labeled and priced.
  

• Monitor inventory levels and notify management when products need replenishment.
  

• Assist with catering orders as needed.
  

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe deli and retail environment.
  

• Sweep, mop, clean work areas, and remove trash throughout each shift.
  

• Respond professionally to customer concerns and assist in resolving issues.
  

• Follow all company policies, food safety regulations, and operational procedures.
  

• Assist with additional store responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  

• Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  

• Occasionally bend, reach, kneel, and climb while stocking merchandise.
  

• Work in refrigerated and food preparation areas.
  

• Work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Retail or food service experience is preferred but not required. We are happy to train motivated individuals with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.

We're about 200 miles from the nearest Walmart in Fort Stockton and approximately 95 miles from the nearest McDonald's or traffic light in Alpine. People choose Lajitas because they appreciate wide-open spaces, peaceful surroundings, incredible sunsets, and world-famous stargazing instead of traffic and city noise.

Employee housing is located close to the resort, making it possible to walk or bike to work. While having a vehicle isn't required, it's helpful for shopping trips to Presidio or Alpine.
