    Jewell Gardens requires a lot of hands (and feet) to keep the garden in tip top show garden state and we need volunteers! Not ready to settle down and work? Need a place to stay and some food? No problem! Come volunteer with the Garden crew to plant, weed, and maintain the gardens! We have two spaces in our Volunteer cabin and can provide you with a food allowance and a roof over your head for 25 hours of work a week. We're pretty flexible about when you work and we will work together for a happy schedule. You can stay a week or all summer if it works out!

    Job Overview

    Glassblowers at Jewell Gardens facilitate tours and create specific product production. They are responsible for creating your own personalized tour, facilitating each guest in creating their own glass products, and managing the tour flow and time. Glassblowers are also responsible for cold working products and keeping the studio clean and professional at all times. Jewell Gardens produces unique Alaskan made products and glassblowers will fill their non-tour time with production. 

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Glassblower will be required to conduct our various tours with guests in a timely and professional manner
    • On average a glassblower may perform 2-3 one and half hour long tours per day
    • Required to well presented each day and be able to assist the special needs of our guests as they arise
    • Willingness to work on Jewell Gardens glass production line
    • Clearly and articulately provide information to guests in an engaging manner and answer any questions that the guests have
    • Ensure that every product that goes to our guests and our staff is of the highest quality and is well presented
    • Contribute to the guests’ sales experience within our Glass Gallery
    • Responsible for collecting waivers and paperwork from guests
    • Must remain calm, friendly, and enthusiastic at all times
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • At least one year of previous experience with "Blow Your Own" tours
    • 5 years of glassblowing experience is necessary
    • Basic knowledge of teaching and assisting in glassblowing demonstrations
    • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and written, with customers, co-workers, and management
    • The ability to be flexible, think on your feet and manage time effectively
    • An overall positive attitude
    • Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • Passion for learning and willingness to continue to acquire relevant knowledge
    • Fluent in English; bilingual a plus
    • Being enthusiastic and friendly
    • Ability to remain calm and collected when dealing with difficult guests
    • Being able to interact with people from different backgrounds
    • Being able to work with a team
    • Having time management skills
    • Being able to retain historical facts
    • Being able to lift 50+ lb a must

    Other Information

    Due to the nature of the cruise ship business, we will provide next-day schedules to our employees as soon as possible. Sometimes this will not be until the night before by 8 pm. Cruise ship tours can change at the last minute and we recognize that communication is key. We will do our best to communicate days off for the week at the beginning of the week. 

    Schedules are normally 35 to 50 hours per week, 5 to 6 days per week. If you are receiving less than 40 hours per week, it is your responsibility to report this to management. If you would like additional hours, you can fill your hours in other departments of Jewell Gardens.

    Reports To - Executive Chef

    Job Overview

    As the prep cook, you will be responsible for a variety of duties including assisting the chef and sous chef with production and servicing of parties and special events

    You will be responsible for completing the day’s tasks and closing out your day by cleaning and wrapping your designated area along with any other responsibilities deemed necessary by the chef or sous chef. This may include assisting the dishwasher in the breakdown of the kitchen, or extra cleaning projects

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Complete tasks assigned by the Chef or Sous chef in a timely manner
    • Keep your prep area clean and organized
    • Maintain a positive and professional approach with guests, co-workers, and other staff
    • Comply with all sanitation and safety guidelines
    • Ensure all product is labeled, organized and rotated throughout the reach-ins, walk-ins and dry storage on a daily basis
    • Assist with staff meal preparations
    • Ensure that every product that goes to our guests and our staff is of the highest quality and is well presented
    • Assist with the lunch station prep and service
    • Assist in all areas of the kitchen including prep and turn out of events in a timely manner
    • Assist with putting away deliveries while rotating stock
    • Assist with special events
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Previous prep and or line cook experience
    • Able to stand for long periods of time
    • Able to lift 50lbs
    • Basic knowledge of culinary terms and knife skills
    • Passion for learning and producing high-quality   products 
    • Fluent in English
    • Must be 21 years of age
    • Being enthusiastic and friendly
    • Ability to remain calm and collected when it gets busy
    • Have a good attitude
    • Being able to work with a team
    • Have good time management skills

    Other Information
