Summer Seasonal Shuttle Bus Driver- Acadia National Park
We are a summer/ fall seasonal shuttle bus company servicing Acadia National Park and the surrounding villages including beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine.
About Island Explorer/ Downeast Transportation Inc.
In 1999, Downeast Transportation inc., partnered with Acadia National Park and created the Island Explorer bus system with just eight buses. Twenty-one years later, the service has tripled in size and has attracted many other new sponsors including LL Bean. This free service, not only helps in alleviating parking issues but cuts the carbon footprint in the park by using propane to power the buses. We have happily transported over seven million hikers, bikers, and sightseers to their destinations over the years.
Summer season runs from June 23rd to the end of August, and the fall season runs from the end of August to Columbus Day.
The Employee Experience
Many of our drivers enjoy working in such a beautiful coastal setting. In your off time you can hike the many mountain trails and coastal paths, bike on the carriage roads that Mr. Rockefeller built and explore the idyllic villages on and around Mount Desert Island. This is coastal Maine at it's best!
Our drivers are customer service specialists as well. They are friendly and helpful to passengers and co-workers alike. Our drivers realize that they are part of a vacation experience.
Requirements: A CDL with a passenger endorsement, and must pass a pre- employment drug screening and submit to FTA random screening.
Room and Board
There are many campgrounds near our hub that can offer discounts and/or tax credits to our employees.
You can also check our daily newspapers online for rentals: The Bangor Daily News and the Ellsworth American.
Getting Here and Getting Around
We are located within one mile of the Bar Harbor Airport. There is also a twice weekly bus that picks up and drops off at the Bangor International airport as well as Concord coach bus lines in Bangor, ME. Our bus service is the only public transportation in the Trenton/ Bar Harbor Area. In areas other than that you would want to bike or drive.
There is no shortage of outdoor activities in our area. Hiking, biking, climbing, and fresh and saltwater kayaking are just a few. The Village of Bar Harbor offers a variety of nightlife options. Acadia National Park hosts many ranger lead programs that range from natural history to stargazing. The July 4th festivities have been ranked #2 in the nation by USA Today, and the island offers other festivals throughout the summer and fall seasons.
