We are hiring for a SEASONAL Community Activities Specialists for the upcoming fall season, including housing accommodations and transportation to and from the work hub!
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Community Activities Specialist provides services to Hope support recipients through their work in implementing a wide variety of recreational and skill-building activities and supports to maximize support recipients’ physical, social, and cognitive skills. The Community Activities Specialist leads and supports children, teens, and adults who experience disabilities within recreational and skill building activities. This position serves as a support team member through implementing plans designed to assist the support recipient in building skills useful to adapting to home, school and community environments; while utilizing methods and techniques of teaching through which full participation in recreation and skill building activities can occur. Activities include swim, dance, arts & crafts, volunteering at local establishments, etc.
This SEASONAL position is expected to run August 13, 2018 - January 14, 2019, at 30-40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, weekends off for hiking, skiing, fishing, and exploring our great state!
Hope offers single and shared housing accommodations that are fully furnished and include a complete kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, & refrigerator. Units are available on a first come, first served basis and provide excellent opportunity to stay in ALASKA for FREE as part of your employment agreement!
Hope offers the use of Agency provided fleet vehicles for use to and from work, and while on the job. For off-time adventures, People Mover is Anchorage's public transportation system, offering routes and stops throughout the city. For longer excursions, there are a number of carriers in town to travel by bus, car, boat, or train!
To qualify for the Community Activities Specialist role you must meet the following requirements;
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Associate Degree in Recreation or related field preferred.
- Must have at least 6 months experience working in a formalized recreation program (i.e. summer camp, before/after school program, organized sport, etc.). Three years' experience preferred.
- Possess a valid Drivers' License & three years' driving experience (permit time included)
- Ability to pass a State of Alaska background check
