About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Maintenance Manager to oversee the daily operations and long-term integrity of our hotel and lodging facilities in Alaska. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all physical assets—ranging from guest accommodations and food & beverage outlets to employee housing—are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and appearance.
The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of hotel engineering systems and maintenance procedures, and a particular focus on seasonal water and wastewater system management, which operates from mid-April through the end of September each year. Familiarity with Alaska’s Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) standards and regulations is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Maintenance & Operations
- Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance across all buildings, systems, and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components.
- Manage maintenance schedules and work orders to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Lead a small maintenance team during the peak season; coordinate with outside contractors as needed.
- Maintain logs, inspections, and reports in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
Water & Wastewater System Oversight
- Operate and maintain seasonal water treatment and wastewater systems, ensuring compliance with ADEC requirements.
- Conduct seasonal startup, monitoring, and shutdown of systems with emphasis on proper sampling, reporting, and preventive maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to pumps, tanks, valves, and distribution systems.
- Keep current on changes to Alaska state water/wastewater compliance and testing standards.
Seasonal Transition & Year-Round Support
- Manage the opening and closing of seasonal infrastructure, including employee housing, water systems, and utility services.
- During the off-season (October–April), focus shifts to deep maintenance projects, infrastructure planning, and capital improvements.
- Participate in budget planning, procurement, and inventory control for parts, tools, and supplies.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in facility maintenance, building engineering, or hotel operations management.
- Strong experience with water treatment or wastewater systems required; DEC-level certifications required.
- Familiarity with Alaska environmental and utility regulations is highly desirable.
- Hands-on, adaptable, and able to work in a remote and seasonal hospitality environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; able to prioritize tasks and lead a team effectively.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
