Spend Your Summer with Us

Want to make some money? Want to meet new, incredible people? Looking for an adventure? Like staying busy at work?

Spending your summer in Skagway, Alaska will give you all of those things! Skagway is a small town at the top of the Lynn Canal in Southeast Alaska. It is known for its history during the Klondike Gold Rush and is now a major cruise ship stop on the Alaska Inside Passage. There is nowhere more beautiful with more outdoor activities than Skagway. Spend your time off taking a helicopter ride to a glacier, hiking the Upper Dewey trail to a lookout over the town, taking a whale-watching tour or driving into the picturesque Yukon Territory. Just make sure you leave time to catch up with friends and co-workers at the Skagway Brewing Company or the Red Onion Saloon. As you walk home check out the stars and maybe even see the Northern Lights. Working in Skagway is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we would love to have you work with us!

What is the Store Like?:

What will your day look like? What do you sell?

Welcoming over 10,000 tourists per day, our three stores (Klondike Clothing, Glacier Bay Trading Co and Skagway Trading) are the busiest retail stores in Skagway. The stores carry t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, umbrellas, mugs, knickknacks, magnets, and so many more gifts. You'll spend your day doing lots of different things at a very fast pace, so if you like variety this job is for you! Your day might consist of cashiering, stocking the floor, refolding items and talking with customers. You'll give lots of directions and answer many questions about Alaska and Skagway. No day is the same, but every day is fun and exciting!

Where Will I Live?:

Is there Wi-Fi? Is it expensive? Where do I do laundry?

Housing is so easy! We provide low rent housing for all our employees. We have multiple locations in town, including apartments and houses. Each dwelling is shared with multiple staff members. Every bedroom comes with bunk beds (you will have roommates), bedding, dressers and shared closet space. There are multiple bathrooms, access to (free) washers and dryers, kitchens equipped with everything you need, plus living rooms with smart TVs. Think of them as Airbnbs, equipped with everything you need. Unfortunately there are no single rooms available, everyone will be sharing with between one and three roommates. Private rooms are available for couples. There is no smoking, vaping, hard liquor or pets allowed in company housing. Everyone must be respectful of shared spaces and each other. The best part is housing is only $500 per month per person.

When Should I Be There?:

When is the season? How do I get to Skagway?

The cruise ship season is April 15th-October 21th, 2025. We hope most staff can arrive in Skagway on March 23rd and can stay until October 24th. If you need a smaller window of time please let us know and we can work with you. To get to Skagway you will need to fly to Juneau (JNU) and then take a state ferry. Don't worry we will help you arrange all of this and we will pick you up at the ferry terminal in Skagway, take you to the grocery store and help get you settled in your new housing.

Will I Make Money?:

Absolutely!

Our base pay is $23 per hour. When you are hired you will agree to a contracted end date, if you work until that date, you will receive $3 for every regular hour worked during the season. Any overtime hours worked are not eligible for the bonus. Don't forget everything including internet, free laundry, garbage, water, sewer, is included in your rent! You'll have plenty of money for groceries and fun, plus we offer a 50% employee discount on regular-priced items in-store. Your store uniform is also provided to you for free. There is also room for advancement if you're interested in a management position. Returning staff also receive raises, plus reduced rent.

Is This Job Right For Me?:

Are you a hard worker? Get along with most people? Want to have fun at work?

Tourism in Alaska is a big business! We want to hire people who are excited to work in a new location, meet new people and make lifelong friendships. You should be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, be able to stand for up to 10 hours per day and go up and down stairs carrying merchandise multiple times per day. You will live and work with other staff member so having good communication skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to work together are a must! We are looking for trustworthy, energetic, adventurous, friendly and reliable people who take pride in their work and have a strong work ethic. We welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community to apply. Our store is a safe space for all employees.
