Spending your summer in Skagway, Alaska will give you all of those things! Skagway is a small town at the top of the Lynn Canal in Southeast Alaska. It is known for its history during the Klondike Gold Rush and is now a major cruise ship stop on the Alaska Inside Passage. There is nowhere more beautiful with more outdoor activities than Skagway. Spend your time off taking a helicopter ride to a glacier, hiking the Upper Dewey trail to a lookout over the town, taking a whale-watching tour or driving into the picturesque Yukon Territory. Just make sure you leave time to catch up with friends and co-workers at the Skagway Brewing Company or the Red Onion Saloon. As you walk home check out the stars and maybe even see the Northern Lights. Working in Skagway is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we would love to have you work with us!

Welcoming over 10,000 tourists per day, Glacier Bay Trading Company is one of the busiest retail stores in Skagway. The store carries t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, umbrellas, mugs, knickknacks, magnets, and so many more gifts. You'll spend your day doing lots of different things, so if you like variety this job is for you! Your day might consist of cashiering, stocking the floor, refolding items and talking with customers. You'll give lots of directions and answer many questions about Alaska and Skagway. No day is the same, but every day is fun and exciting!

Housing is so easy! We provide free housing for all our employees. Above the store is a living area with multiple shared rooms. Each room comes with bunk beds, bedding, two dressers, shared closet space and nightstands. There are two bathrooms, a (free) washer and dryer, a kitchen equipped with everything you need, plus a living room with a television, DVD player, movies and books. Rooms are shared, but if you come with a friend we'll make sure you're roomed together. There is no smoking, vaping or hard liquor allowed in the apartments. Everyone must be respectful of shared spaces and each other. The best part is housing and WiFi are FREE!
When Should I Be There?
Do I have to stay the whole season? How do I get to Skagway?
The cruise ship season is April 18th-October 31st, 2023. We would like to have people arrive as soon as April 5th to help with setup and have inventory completed by November 3rd. If you need a shorter time, please let us know because we would still love to have you work with us. June through August is the busiest time so let us know what works best for you! To get to Skagway you will need to fly to Juneau (JNU) and then take a state ferry. Don't worry we will help you arrange all of this and we will pick you up at the ferry terminal in Skagway.
Will I Make Money?:
Yes!
Our base pay is $17 per hour with some overtime hours. When you are hired you will agree to a contracted end date, if you work until that date, you will receive $3 for every regular hour worked during the season. Don't forget all of your housing and internet is free! You'll have plenty of money for groceries and fun, plus we offer a 50% employee discount on regular-priced items in-store.

Tourism in Alaska is a big business! We want to hire people who are excited to work in a new location, meet new people and make lifelong friendships. You should be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, be able to stand for up to 10 hours per day and go up and down stairs carrying merchandise multiple times per day. You will live and work with other staff member so having good communication skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to work together are a must!
