We currently have an opportunity for a dedicated individual who shares our vision of helping Girl Scouts change the world for the better. Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is seeking someone who loves the outdoors to work as a Camp Ranger at our camp in Stevenson, WA. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the property and ensuring users of the property have a safe and rewarding camp experience.

**The Ranger must live on-site.

What you'll do

In this role, you’ll ensure that the site is in good repair, safe, environmentally sensitive, and accessible. You’ll provide general maintenance, construction, and custodial services, per the council’s policies and standards. You’ll work closely with volunteers, camp directors, and other council staff to ensure that all authorized site users have a successful and safe camping experience. In collaborating with the Director of Property, you’ll be responsible for making day-to-day decisions in prioritizing projects and acquiring and using resources within accountabilities and budget. In this role, you’ll participate fully in construction projects at camp. You’ll also provide mentorship, training, and day-to-day supervision of an Assistant Camp Ranger in partnership with the Director of Property.

  • Grounds maintenance: snow removal, trail clearing, road maintenance, mowing, etc.
  • Ready all units before property reservations. Anticipate the pending arrival of campers by keeping campgrounds and facilities free of clutter and in a sanitary condition to maintain a neat appearance and provide a safe environment for campers.
  • Process the check-in and check-out of all groups using the site, including welcoming guests, familiarizing guests with facilities, reviewing emergency information with the group leader(s), assisting guests moving into and out of units, and providing authorized equipment to ensure a successful experience.
  • Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of buildings and equipment.
  • Maintain septic and water systems and keep plumbing schedules.
  • Participate in construction projects on the property, working both independently and with others, as required.
  • Monitor the site for damage caused by weather or vandalism.
  • Maintain gates and posted signs to discourage unauthorized access to the camp property.
  • Provide support to camp directors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Open and close all outdoor camping units by cleaning and making repairs, turning water systems on/off, moving equipment, and winterizing pipes and water systems.
  • Cut and split annual supplies of firewood.
  • Check appliances, plumbing, electricity, furnaces, fire extinguishers, communication systems, pool filtration and chemicals, and septic systems on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Follow GSUSA and council policies and guidelines and ensures compliance with relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and codes.
  • Prepare required reports on a timely basis for supervisor review.
  • Participate in planning meetings and work schedules.
  • May provide vendor research, collect bids, and participate in drafting service contracts.
  • Provide backup and assistance at other council properties, which may require overnight travel.
  • Maintain good communication with supervisors and other property team members.
  • Accurate and timely record keeping per applicable policies and regulations.

What you bring

  • At least two (2) years of experience in construction, property maintenance, or similar occupation.
  • Forestry and/or Parks experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of general construction, including but not limited to frame-to-finish Carpentry, concrete, and excavation.
  • Experience in various maintenance areas including, but not limited to, grounds and turf maintenance, plumbing, ability to troubleshoot electrical problems, mechanical repairs, and alarm systems.
  • Skills in safely using hand, air, and power tools, including chain saws.
  • Computer proficiency, including email, word, and internet applications.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Must live in Girl Scout-provided onsite housing.
  • Valid Driver’s License, satisfactory driving record, and state-required minimum level of auto insurance.

The Details

  • Compensation – Nonexempt, hourly, starting at $21 - $24 per hour ($43,680 - $49,920 annually), depending on experience, plus housing which includes a residence, water, sewer or septic, garbage, landline phone, internet, and WiFi.

  • Hours – Full-time, 40 hours per week, requires a flexible schedule to support site user needs and respond to emergent situations. Some evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during the busy summer season. Occasional overnight trips may be required.
  • Location – This role lives and works out of our scenic Camp Arrowhead site in Stevenson, Washington. Camp Arrowhead includes 260 acres with sweeping mountain views, forest, meadows, trails, a pool, and a lake. This site is located at the base of Dog Mountain and Wind Mountain and has a 287-person total sleeping capacity.
