  • Assistant Manager - Front End

    Gardiner

    Position: Assistant Manager – Front End
    Reports to: Store Owners
    Status: Year-round, full-time / non-exempt

    Summary Description:

    Be part of a thriving, locally-owned business that is situated at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The Gardiner Market provides for the grocery needs of Gardiner, Montana and millions of visitors that visit Yellowstone each year. Each department prides itself on providing the freshest, best quality products to customers. The Gardiner Market staff provides a welcoming atmosphere while assisting customers in finding the items on their shopping list.

    The Assistant Manager – Front End is responsible for supervising the front end staff, including cashiers and baggers. The Assistant Manager – Front End coordinates all aspects of the front end operation at the Gardiner Market. This includes scheduling, training, adherence to policy, and addressing customer concerns. The successful candidate will have experience in retail, possess an outgoing personality, and will uphold the highest standards of customer service.

    Primary Job Duties:

    • Ensure operational excellence by overseeing prompt and excellent customer service
    • Ensure accuracy and security of all forms of payment by upholding policies and procedures
    • Resolve customer concerns in a manner in line with store policies
    • Oversee, train, and ensure employees actions are in line with company policy, including opening/closing checklists are completed
    • Assess performance of employees and coach employees to grow in their position
    • Ensure productivity of staff by directing employees to tasks and projects when there are not customers to be checked out
    • Be a member of a collaborative, team-oriented environment
    • Other tasks as assigned by store owners, or other designated management

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Fluent in written and spoken English
    • Possess a friendly and welcoming attitude
    • Minimum age of 18 years old as the Gardiner Market is a state liquor store
    • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external audiences
    • Demonstrated experience in fast-paced retail environment
    • Demonstrated ability to train others in policies and procedures
    • Able to perform a variety of tasks, often changing from one task to another while remaining calm
    • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job, including lifting items up to 40 pounds to waist height, standing for entire shift, bending, kneeling, and crouching
    • Willingness to help other managers and departments as needed with a positive attitude
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
    • Represent the Gardiner Market in a courteous and professional manner

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 2 – 3 years’ experience in retail management
    • Experience working with international staff

    Compensation:

    This is a year-round, full-time, non-exempt position based in Gardiner, Montana. The hourly rate is based upon experience, with overtime paid for hours in excess of 40 hours a week. Affordable housing in Gardiner may be available. Year-round employees are eligible for performance bonuses, a 10% discount on groceries and general merchandise. In addition, year-round, full-time employees are eligible for health, vision, life, and accident insurance, as well as an Employee Assistance Program.

    Position: Cashier–Front End
    Reports to: Front End Manager
    Status: Seasonal, full-time / non-exempt

    Summary Description:

The Gardiner Market provides for the grocery needs of Gardiner, Montana and millions of visitors that visit Yellowstone each year. Each department prides itself on providing the freshest, best quality products to customers. The Gardiner Market staff provides a welcoming atmosphere while assisting customers in finding the items on their shopping list.

    Cashiers work under supervision of front-end mangers. They are expected to strictly adhere to company procedures. Cashiers are not typically required to exercise independent judgment. The successful candidate will have experience in retail, possess an outgoing personality, and will uphold the highest standards of customer service. Ideal candidate will be available April through October.

    Primary Job Duties:

    • Assist customers in locating items throughout the store
    • Sell and bag customer items
    • Process payments and give back correct change
    • Maintain clean work environment
    • Understand and follow directions from supervisors
    • Sell alcohol and tobacco in legal fashion
    • Assist in food prep areas if required
    • Ask for assistance when needed
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    Basic Qualifications: 

    • Fluent in written and spoken English
    • Possess a friendly and welcoming attitude
    • Minimum age of 18 years old as the Gardiner Market is a state liquor store (Serve Safe training required within 30 days of hire)
    • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external audiences
    • Demonstrated experience in fast-paced retail environment
    • Working knowledge of American currency and ability to accept payments and process change
    • Able to perform a variety of tasks, often changing from one task to another while remaining calm
    • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job, including lifting items up to 40 pounds to waist height, standing for entire shift, bending, kneeling, and crouching
    • Willingness to help in other departments as needed with a positive attitude
    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
    • Represent the Gardiner Market in a courteous and professional manner

     

    Must be able to: 

    • Understand and follow directions
    • Stand for full shift, 8 hours at a time
    • Lift boxes up to 40 pounds up to waist-height
    • Bend and kneel to stock shelves
    • Work on a team in a fast-paced environment
    • Adhere to company dress-code and other employee handbook policies

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior retail experience or similar environment to develop customer service skills

     

    Compensation:

    This is a seasonal, full-time, non-exempt position based in Gardiner, Montana. The hourly rate is based upon experience, with overtime paid for hours in excess of 40 hours a week. Affordable housing in Gardiner may be available. Seasonal employees are eligible for performance bonuses, and a 5% discount on groceries and general merchandise.
