Adventure Trip Leaders will supervise and care for trip campers in loco parentis. Trip Leaders must work well with a co-leader in a remote setting, away from Frost Valley YMCA resources and guidance. The ability to foresee and prevent potential hazards and camper issues is crucial to leading a successful trip. Trip Leaders are responsible for preparing final logistics for each assigned trip and ensuring he/she has all of the equipment necessary to run a trip safely and successfully. This position is also responsible for maintaining the gear and ensuring that equipment is being well cared for and correctly cleaned and used. Facilitating a camper's experience to be positive and insightful is also crucial to this position. The successful candidate truly enjoys working with children of various Frost Valley programs and desires to share their love for the outdoors.
- Ability to identify and mitigate risk so participants have a positive and incident-free experience.
- Supervise trip campers in loco parentis from the time the first camper arrives at Frost Valley to the time the last camper leaves Frost Valley programs.
- Create a safe and fun environment for campers participating in Adventure Trips.
- Maintain a friendly, cooperative, and professional relationship with fellow staff and outfitters.
- Complete and submit all required documentation including, but not limited to, trip logs, accident reports, spending reports, and vehicle logs in a timely manner.
- Effectively teach outdoor and trip specific skills to campers.
- Process each trip experience with campers and encourage group dynamics to create positive outcomes in activities and social settings.
- Maintain equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning equipment in a timely fashion, returning equipment within a reasonable time after use, and reporting/fixing broken gear
- Organize final logistics for assigned trips, including, but not limited to, food and gear preparation.
- Finalize all logistics for each trip and ensure that each trip has adequate, correct safety and general gear.
- Be a good role model for fellow staff and campers at all times. This includes modeling acceptable behavior, language, Frost Valley’s core values, and outdoor standards.
- Ensure that Frost Valley Summer Camps achieves the highest standard and meets the mission and goals of both the Summer Camp Department and Frost Valley YMCA, as well as expectations of customers.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Offer help and assist with any other duties as assigned for the success of Frost Valley.

- Responsible for executing the shared 2025 Frost Valley Vision.
- Must be 21 years of age or older by June 27, 2022.
- Must possess a clean, valid U.S. driver’s license for the length of the position. The driving record must be approved prior to official acceptance.
- Minimum Wilderness First Responder & CPR certification required. Certifications must be valid June 27, 2022, through August 20, 2022, and actual, signed card/certification must be shown to the Adventure Director prior to June 27, 2022.
- Experience working with kids ages 11-17 in an outdoor setting, or a strong desire to gain experience in such an environment.
- Able to work well with a team of others and a co-leader on a one-to-one basis.
- Able to work long hours, including evening and late-night programs, in high-stress conditions.
- Able to be flexible to sudden changes in schedule, staff, and campers.
- Present a strong, positive model for campers and fellow staff members
- Outstanding customer service skills, group facilitation, and logistical skill.
- Be very detail-oriented and safety conscious.
- Be able to multi-task and handle pressure well.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Able to hike 8-13 miles in rugged, uneven terrain per day with a pack weighing one-third of one’s body weight and in good physical health overall.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
