  • Assistant Lodge Manager

    George Inlet Lodge

    As directed by the Lodge Manager, the Assistant Manager assists in oversight of lodge operations, including food preparation and service, gift shop, inventory, and logistical coordination so that customer and owner expectations are met. The Assistant Manager will act as Lodge Manager in his/her absence

    REQUIREMENTS

    Education

    Required: High school diploma; Alaska Food Handlers Card; TAP Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification

    Preferred: Management experience, with at least two years restaurant experience (front and/or back of the house), and/or an Associates Degree in a Food/Beverage/Hospitality-related field.

    Experience

    Required: One year management in retail, restaurant, or hospitality.

    Preferred: A minimum of two years experience in hospitality, preferably in a fast-paced restaurant environment.  Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 

    Strong human relations skills, well organized, analytical thinking, and problem solving.  Computer proficiency including the use of word processor, spreadsheet, and database. Basic accounting skills and a working knowledge of Point-Of-Sale Systems. Ability to manage staff, scheduling, managing payroll to meet company budget, and basic human resource capabilities.  Ability to manage tour operations including safe & sanitary operations, food & beverage management, and general customer service.   

    Regular standing, sitting, and walking in a kitchen, restaurant, and tour operation environment are required, as well as carrying items, use of hands, arms, vision, and voice. Must be able to carry 50 pounds.

    Requires supervisory oversight in all areas of Lodge operation. Adequately manage stress in a variable environment. Requires the ability to analyze data for decision making in a business environment. Simultaneously manage timely service to multiple dining rooms and tour operations. Language ability including reading, writing, spelling, and the ability to verbally communicate clearly in the English language on business topics. Supervisory oversight in all areas of Lodge operations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • The Assistant Manager is selected and appointed by the Tour Manager and Lodge Manager and delegated sufficient authority to successfully complete the duties, responsibilities, goals, and objectives that have been and will be assigned to this position.
    • Act for and on behalf of the Lodge Manager in his/her absence. This authority should be exercised in accordance with company policy and according to instructions provided by the Tour Manager. When the manager is absent, the Assistant Manager shall have the authority to act for the manager in regular day to day operational decisions but may not be delegated all of the manager’s responsibilities (e.g. dismissing an employee, offering pay increases, adding staff.)
    • Have a working knowledge of all Lodge positions to adequately supervise each position and to provide training to subordinates, as well to assist or fill-in as necessary.
    • Manage Lodge gift shop, including inventory, stocking, sales and merchandising, and cash handling and reporting procedures.
    • Manage the lodge phone during daily operation for tour coordination and client questions.
    • Have thorough familiarity with the daily schedule to direct traffic.
    • As directed by the Lodge Manager:
      • Perform office tasks including answering the telephone, responding to emails, and creating the daily dispatch.
      • Have a working understanding of the Tour Tracker in order to maximize company use of inventory and prevent logistical conflicts, as directed by the Lodge Manager.
      • Monitor dock and tour operations to ensure all tours arrive back to the ship prior to all aboard time and immediately communicate any delays to ship shore excursion staff.
      • Following a tour cancellation, alert ShoreEx staff and alert ShoreEx staff and diplomatically communicate to guests any tour cancellations or alterations.
      • Train and supervise staff as outlined in the EAT Organizational Chart to ensure the successful completion of tasks as outlined in the Position Guides. Training should include, among other things, driving protocol, general customer service, logistical awareness, food handling and safety, boat and plane tying, cleaning standards, and payment procedures.
      • Complete weekly work schedules in conjunction with the cruise line calendar for GIL employees. 
      • Communicate with Tour Manager regarding accidents, weather changes, irregular operations, and mechanical problems with tour.
      • As directed by Tour Manager, execute facility site inspections and familiarization trips.
      • In conjunction with the Tour Manager, ensure meal and tour times operate as per daily dispatch and that tours make best use of company resources.
      • Manage requests for complimentary tour excursions from staff and if approved, relay to Tour Manager or Assistant Tour Manager.
      • Perform End-of-Day paperwork close outs including schedule discrepancies, tip records, employee time clocks, gift shop sales, and other needed reports. Double check all daily financial statements for accuracy. Once approved, deliver to Admin for processing. 
      • Manage an employee morale program designed to motivate staff, recognize high performance, and to create a positive work environment for the EAT team. 
      • Perform periodic room checks and facility inspections. 
    • Create a master cleaning schedule for the lodge, to include areas to be cleaned, type of cleaning, and frequency. 
    • When assigned by the Lodge Manager, assist in staff recruiting and communicate management objectives, job requirements, and expectations to new candidates.
    • During staff meetings with the Lodge Manager, discuss team performance issues, problem solve, provide training, address safety concerns, and provide an opportunity for communication with team.
    • Create a positive work environment for the lodge team. 
    • When invited, participate in bi-weekly management team meetings to discuss lodge operations, profitability, and customer issues and report to, and provide feedback to the management team.
    • Manage the laundry throughout the day and assist in rolling silverware and hot towels.   
    • In conjunction with the Lodge Manager, ensure that EAT hiring and performance review procedures are fully implemented and followed by the managers at Experience Alaska Tours.  
    • On an annual basis, provide recommendations to the Lodge Manager regarding upcoming EAT staffing needs. 
    • Work with subordinates to continually find ways to increase revenue and decrease expenses.

  • Boat Captain

    George Inlet Lodge

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Come to work in EAT uniform as required and promptly as scheduled. 
    • Know all script and narration materials for Tour: modify for quality as needed.
    • Keep and maintain maintenance logs, radio logs, e-perb logs and complete monthly training as required by US Coast Guard regulations and Experience Alaska Tours (EAT).
    • Turn in fuel receipt for gallons refueled in each boat and turn in each time refueled.
    • General engine maintenance, including oil changes, fueling boats, fuel additives, and general upkeep of vessels.
    • Captain EAT vessels for daily tours or other events if needed.
    • The captain is responsible for the cleanliness of vessels daily. Evening cleaning and morning preparation for tour readiness.
    • Inspect vessel prior to each morning tour for safety equipment, consumables and other needed supplies and document items on check- off list.
    • Document Souls on Board count and turn in prior to leaving dock for each tour. Supervise First mate/ Narrator and assign duties as necessary.
    • Safety briefing of all passengers on board and continued safety of all passengers during tour.
    • Maintain First Aid Red Cross card. Maintain drug testing standards as required by law. Join and maintain Tongass Substance Screening Membership.
    • Maintain all license requirements. Copy of license provided to EAT office.  The license requirement is for a USCG 25 Ton or above Captains License. 
    • Maintain a friendly and bright atmosphere on board for all guests, co-workers and supervisors. Exhibit the utmost in professionalism in all aspects, including language, attitude and emotions.
    • Captains will maintain a work schedule of 5 to 6 days weekly on average unless classified as part-time. Schedule may change as deemed necessary by tour.
    • Request days off a minimum of three weeks in advanced.
    • Other duties as assigned by EAT Management.

  • Boat Narrator

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Narrator training and developing task list with other narrators.
    • Maintaining supply of engine oil, fuel additives and oil filters for vessels
    • Inspecting and assuring safety and housekeeping of the docks and grounds
    • Coming to work in EAT uniform as required and promptly as scheduled
    • Assisting guests during loading and unloading of the vessel for safety
    • Greeting guests and assisting with their transfer safely onto the boats
    • Making sure guests are prepared with ponchos.
    • Maintaining radio contact with other key staff to promote tour excellence
    • Providing a professionally narrated tour utilizing EAT script provided. Must pass training with EAT experienced staff to handle tour independently.
    • Pursuing and maintaining first aid and CPR certificates.
    • Pass drug screening test required by Coast Guard Regulations for Drug and Alcohol Safety. Random drug testing will occur. 
    • Maintain a friendly and bright atmosphere for all guests.
    • Assist with dining room turns when needed.
    • Assist kitchen with food deliveries when needed. 
    • Other duties as assigned by EAT management and/or supervisor.

  • Gift Shop Associate

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Arrive on time for scheduled work hours. Wear full uniform as required by tour. Long hair should be pulled into a ponytail. No visual body piercing accessories allowed during work schedule other than earrings. No tattoos visible.
    • Maintain a friendly and professional appearance and attitude when at work.
    • Learn and operate the POS (point of sale software) as requested by management
    • Keep merchandise well stocked, includes pricing, folding and display
    • Check and clean store and entryway for cleanliness
    • With management's input, generate and track purchase orders as needed
    • Request days off a minimum of two weeks in advance.
    • Complete paperwork as required including check sheets and daily close out
    • Check with General Manager for additional tasks before leaving work.
    • Assist dining room staff when possible
    • Take phone/radio messages and relay them to the appropriate parties

    Position available for fun-loving, hard-working restaurant and tour company in Ketchikan, Alaska, serving an All-You-Can-Eat Dungeness Crab Feast! Position requires knowledge and ability to ensure kitchen equipment is clean and in proper working order and prepare hot food and serving items in adequate supply for the expected guest count.

    Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time, work with extreme temperature items, and bend, push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs. or more. Must have ServSafe Certification (depending on position) and Alaska Food Handlers Card and be able to pass a drug test. Prefer 2 years culinary experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Free housing, company vehicles, kayaks, and spectacular scenery provided onsite. Season runs from April to October with seasonal bonus if contract completed.

    Positions include Kitchen Manager or Lead, Kitchen Cook, and Kitchen Prep Cook.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Come to work in EAT uniform as required and on time as scheduled.
    • Assist in all functions of the kitchen or cooking area including washing dishes and equipment, cleaning kitchen areas, and preparing hot food according to healthy and safety guidlines.
    • Prepare ingredients and pre-made foods, stock inventory, and manage kitchen inventory according to FIFO methods and health and safety guidelines.
    • Properly disposing of trash and cleaning to a high standard.
    • Maintain a friendly and bright atmosphere for co-workers.
    • Ensure the safety and maintenance of the kitchen areas.
    • Assist with food deliveries, ordering, and general inventory. 
    • Other duties as assigned by Lodge Manager.

    Position available for fun-loving, hard-working restaurant and tour company in Ketchikan, Alaska, serving an All-You-Can-Eat Dungeness Crab Feast! Position requires greeting guests, ensuring all guests participate in their assigned tour, and loading and unloading correct guest transportation in a timely manner in logistical coordination with the Lodge Manager. Previous experience as a coordinator or dispatcher, and 1 year experience in a fast-paced restaurant preferred.

    Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time without breaks, bend, push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs. or more with ease. Must be able to pass a drug test and have valid Driver’s License and clean driving record to transport guests in company vehicles. Free housing, company vehicles, kayaks, and spectacular scenery provided onsite. Season runs from April to October with seasonal bonus if contract completed. 

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Come to work in EAT uniform as required and promptly as scheduled
    • Inspect and assure the safety and housekeeping of the docks and grounds.
    • Maintain a good knowledge of day to day timetable per the schedule and help keep all staff on track regarding timing and transportation.
    • Greet buses and vans and assist guests during loading and unloading of motor vehicles.
    • Catch or untie floatplanes and assist with loading and unloading of plane guests.
    • Catch or untie boats and assist with loading and unloading of boat guests.
    • Maintain radio contact with other key staff to promote tour excellence
    • Maintain a friendly and bright atmosphere for all guests.
    • Assist with dining rooms in cleaning, bussing, or setting up whenever able.
    • Assist kitchen with food deliveries, dishwashing, cleaning, or laundry whenever able.
    • Infrequently assists with driving guests to town in company vehicle.
    • Other duties as assigned by Lodge Manager.

    Position available for fun-loving, hard-working restaurant and tour company in Ketchikan, Alaska, serving an All-You-Can-Eat Dungeness Crab Feast! Position requires knowledge and ability to greet guests and serve them food and beverages in a timely and courteous manner, based on the procedures and timeline set forth by management.

    Wait Staff are responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of all dining and service areas in the restaurant. Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time without breaks, bend, push, pull and lift up to 25 lbs. or more with ease. Must have Alaska Food Handlers Card, TAP Card (if over 21,) and be able to pass a drug test. Prefer 1 year customer service experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment or tourism operation. Free housing, company vehicles, kayaks, and spectacular scenery provided onsite. Season runs from April to October with seasonal bonus if contract completed. 

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Arrive on time for scheduled work hours.

    • Wear full uniform as required by the tour. Long hair should be pulled into a ponytail.  No visual body piercing accessories allowed during work schedule other than earrings. 
    • Open and set dining rooms for first meals, and clean and close at end of day.
    • Work with kitchen staff to facilitate plating and delivery of food. 
    • Assist with dishwashing, gift shop, laundry, and other duties when requested.
    • Maintain a friendly and professional appearance and attitude when at work.
    • Learn script (5 min. orientation for guests) to demonstrate how to crack crab.
    • Serve beverages and crab meal to guests in a friendly and professional manner.

    Tour Operations

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Must present a professional and friendly attitude at all times on duty. Answer an infinite variety of questions about Experience Alaska Tours, Ketchikan, and Southeast Alaska.
    • Company liaison to shore excursion staff, assisting with sales and logistics. This includes working with bus companies and ship staff to insure that the passenger’s special needs are met.
    • Direct and assist passenger movement between cruise ships and tour busses.
    • Collect all tickets/vouchers as the passengers’ board motor coaches.
    • Effectively communicate with other Experience Alaska Tour employees via cell phone.
    • Conduct settlement transactions with cruise line representatives. These settlements must be turned in every day at the end of your shift.
    • Assist with the distribution of promotional tour materials (brochures/rack cards).
    • Maintain periodic reports of passenger counts and daily sales.
    • Transport guests if needed in company van.
    • Communicate professionally with ship staff regarding final counts and last minute details.
    • Be flexible and react to all situations in a positive and constructive manner.  
    • Work with drivers to assist passengers in the boarding process and brief passengers about their excursion details.
    • Complete all related paperwork after each departure in an accurate, timely and consistent manner.
    • Other duties as needed, or assigned by a manager.

    • Effectively communicate with other Experience Alaska Tour employees via cell phone.
    • Assist with the distribution of promotional tour materials (brochures/rack cards).
    • Maintain periodic reports of passenger counts and daily sales.
    • Communicate professionally with ship staff regarding final counts and last minute details. 
    • Be flexible and react to all situations in a positive and constructive manner.  
    • Complete all related paperwork after each departure in an accurate, timely and consistent manner.
    • Maintain and log vehicle fuel and turn in gas receipts to Admin office.
    • Report any mechanical or maintenance issues or concerns to a manager.
    • Other duties as needed, or assigned by a manager.
