The Assistant Youth Development Manager (AYDM) works closely with our interns, operational managers, the staff community and reports directly to the Youth Development Program Director. The AYDM will help interns develop job skills, work toward personal goals, and prepare for their next steps beyond program completion. The AYDM plays a role in promoting healthy habits, general cleanliness, and practical life skills in our employee housing. Additionally, the AYDM will coordinate fun and engaging on-site activities for all staff as well as leading outdoor adventures (hikes, backpacking trips, white-water rafting, etc.)

The AYDM role offers tremendous responsibility and variety while providing great opportunities to develop deep relationships and significantly impact young people. The AYDM is part job coach, part mentor, part social service provider, part case manager, part recreation guide, and part coordinator. The AYDM supports youth in both work and non-work situations and operates in a highly independent setting. Given the positions' varied responsibilities, the AYDM must be a talented and mature individual to be successful in this challenging, yet incredibly rewarding role

Competencies/Required Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive experience managing a busy, multi-faceted operation, including financial management
  • Strong interest in training/coaching and in supporting our youth mission
  • Disciplined regarding planning and managing schedules and meal/rest breaks  
  • Wedding or similar high-end events experience
  • Hospitality or related experience
  • Independent thinker with great initiative, but comfortable working within a defined framework
  • Must be over the age of 21 and have a valid Driver License

Key Responsibilities

Help interns succeed in their jobs and develop strong skills

  • Learn basics of each of the 6 operational departments and key training points for each
  • Help interns with guest relations and communication
  • Work with operational managers to establish training, performance, and evaluation standards
  • Work side-by-side with the interns where appropriate
  • Teach associates working with interns how best guide interns, and thank them for their investment

Support healthy overall community and successful community living for interns

  • Mentor youth to recognize and value a healthy community
  • Support & coach interns in dealing with issues in the community
  • Organize periodic activities for all staff (ex. movie night, game night, field trips)
  • Encourage and support opportunities for staff interaction with intern program
  • Onsite in evenings to promote good decision-making and address issues that may arise
  • Perform routine housing inspections

Create group and individual recreation programs to enrich youth’s experience outside of work

  • Lead weekly hikes and help create and achieve fitness goals
  • Lead other exciting outdoor activities such as swimming, bicycling, etc.
  • Coordinate and possibly lead special outdoor trips as determined (e.g., backpacking, rafting…)

Deliver a variety of tailored social services coordinated with Youth Development Manager

  • Intentional integrated case management for individual interns
  • Support interns in developing a resume, searching for jobs, applying for jobs, preparing for interviews, etc. to prepare them for their next step after the program
  • Develop tools & trainings to support job preparedness and other key life skills
  • Lead weekly intern group meeting to work on life skills
  • Help interns in achieving their personal goals (as determined)
  • Take interns on miscellaneous excursions to town
  • Help interns monitor bank accounts and savings while encouraging smart savings habits

Other - Assist with intern recruiting

  • Monitor and maintain intern program social media content
  • Follow up with previous interns and providing support as needed
  • Track various program parameters and gather intern feedback/assessments
  • Support interns and managers in addressing crisis situations
  • Bring a consistently energetic, service-oriented mentality with staff, managers & guests
  • Assisting operations as needed

Work environment and Physical demands

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions
  • Frequent walking, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting, climbing stairs
  • Ability to stand and move continuously
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum 
  • Scrubbing and mopping floors
  • Working with required chemicals 

 Details

  • Full time hourly position
  • The lodge is a remote location and housing options are available both onsite and offsite
  • Our local community is home to many key managers and their families as well
  • Compensation based on experience
  • Hours variable, including nights and weekends and all holidays, as well as situational/crisis availability; a regular schedule with specific, set days off will be established
  • Drug testing required in support of the healthy work and living environment we strive to create
  • Healthcare benefits available after 90 days
  • 401K eligible with 3% company match after 1 year
