Maintenance Worker and Driver

Position Summary

This position performs repairs and preventative maintenance to keep the physical plant (buildings and utility infrastructure), equipment, and outdoor landscape of the guest ranch headquarters in good working order. The position involves driving ranch vehicles (with manual transmissions), vehicles with trailers, and tractors to do ranch work and to transport supplies and guests. The ability to organize oneself, solve problems, and work independently is critical. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Attend to routine maintenance schedules and repairs that could involve: carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, welding, appliances, landscaping, etc..

• Perform daily chores that could include cutting and hauling wood, emptying garbage, raking, pool care, and other tasks as assigned.

• Drive ranch vehicles to transport guests/crew (primarily for airport transportation) and to purchase supplies. Driving duties involve operating a standard vehicle with a trailer, and safely transporting large cargo.

• Perform daily strenuous physical work, with bending, stooping, and lifting, in a wide range of temperatures and outdoor conditions.

• Complete other daily, as-needed tasks or projects assigned by ranch office or maintenance department, which could be in any aspect of the ranch operation.

• Organize and motivate oneself to work independently and/or with the team on complex projects.

• Take instruction and ask questions (particularly with regard to safety procedures) as well as take initiative to learn new skills and solve problems.

• Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of work areas, storage areas and tools and supplies

• Maintain personal tidiness and cleanliness and abide by attire requirements during work and off hours

• Get along with immediate co-workers, and other staff with whom you share living and dining space

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Minimum of 3-5 years of professional work in ranching, landscaping, groundskeeping, and/or construction trades

• Basic competence with operation of hand and mechanical tools used for all construction trades (such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical)

• Valid non-commercial drivers’ license, approved for addition to the Elkhorn Ranch insurance policy as a condition of employment

• Ability and willingness to drive ranch vehicle to perform ranch errands or drive guests or crew

• Ability to drive a manual vehicle, tractors, and vehicles with a trailer (including hooking and unhooking gooseneck and bumper pull trailers)

• Available to work complete guest ranch season, including weekends and holidays

• Willingness to live and work at remote location and get along with co-workers during work time and off-work time

This position must be able to start work in early October, 2026 and the job would last through early May, 2027. There is a possibility of extending the end date into May to help close the ranch.
