Come join our team this summer!  The possibilities for summer jobs at Purgatory are endless, if you like working outside we've got mountain bikes, a zip line, summer tubing, an alpine slide, rides and games in our plaza, and we will be unveiling our new mountain coaster this May! If those aren't for you will still need lots of help in our restaurants, rental, and repair shop, ticket office, Purgatory Lodge and much more. 

We will be open 7 days a week from May 26th to August 20th, and on weekends until October 6th, and we need lots of smiling faces to help our guests make memories that will last a lifetime.  

  • Landscaper

    Grounds Maintenance
    Colorado

    GENERAL PURPOSE:

    Landscape and maintain grounds in and around the base area, to provide attractive, well-presented and cared for grounds for our summer guests and employees. Repair and maintain Alpine Slide tracks and sleds. Assist lift operations when necessary.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Water, fertilize and weed flowerbeds, on a daily basis.

    Fertilize and mow grass areas.

    Sweep, tidy and pick up litter in the Purgatory Village grounds, mall and storefront area.

    Empty the Purgatory Village trash receptacles on a daily basis.

    Monitor all recycle containers around the resort and dispose of their contents in the designated area.

    Patch fiberglass track pieces.

    Repair sleds (runner replacements etc.)

    Trim grassy areas as necessary.

    Assist lift ops. unload sleds from lift.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Other duties as assigned.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Basic knowledge of landscaping at high altitude. Alertness, precision, ingenuity, concentration, judgment, initiative, patience, oral and written communication skills, are necessary abilities.

  • Ticket Office SUpervisor

    Tickets

    General  Purpose:

    Supervise all ticket sales locations along with, and in the absence of, the Ticket Manager.  Secure and maintain ticket revenues and stock. Supervise and coach ticket cashiers/reservationists.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

    Supervise and coach ticket cashiers/reservationists.  Make recommendations for performance appraisals, disciplinary discussions, terminations, and assigning and scheduling work.

    Provide excellent customer service to Purgatory guests.

    Be informed of all products and procedures.

    Safeguard the revenues of Purgatory using established internal controls.

    Be prepared to help at windows as needed and operate a window during peak times.

    Complete “opening” and “closing” procedures / processes, including making sure end of day checklist is completed.

    Update end of day reports and email results to senior management.

    Provide support to Rental and Ski and Ride School departments with respect to daily operations and supervisory duties, as needed (ie if they are short handed or need additional manpower)

    Assist with fulfillment of all products sold on Purgatory website and through outside sales channels.

    Help facilitate communication between front line sales staff and marketing staff.

    Assist customers with website/reservation issues and report to IT the problems that guests encounter.

    Other Responsibilities:

    Maintain a good working relationship and open communications between ticket office and other departments.

    Work closely with ticket checking supervisor regarding any ticket-related problems.

    Make suggestions for the improvement of processes and procedures in the lift ticket office.

  • Lift Operations and Activities Supervisor

    General Purpose:

    Supervise the daily operation of lifts and activities foreman, volunteers and front line staff, to ensure a friendly, safe, and efficient experience for Purgatory guests. Operations include but are not limited to Lifts, Zip Line, Activities, ticket checking, maze control, and volunteer operations.  

    Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:

    • Directly and indirectly supervise staff on a daily basis.  Responsible for interviewing, assigning and scheduling work, performance appraisals, training, and disciplinary discussions
    • Implement and enforce safe operational policies and procedures for vehicles, machinery, tools and staff. Reinforce safety procedures for operating machinery in the presence of guests.
    • Responsible to assist in the coordination of and partake in on mountain weather evacuations
    • Closely monitor employee performance to ensure that all company equipment is being operated in a safe and responsible manner, to minimize damage to company property and to the environment.
    • Ensure completion of an investigation for any incident involving, but not limited to – lifts, activities, zip line, mountain coster, tubing, tickets or volunteers. Keep Lift/Activities Director, Manager and Director of Risk Management informed. Determine cause of incident if company property is damaged. If during the investigation, it is determined that an employee is suspected of drug and/or alcohol use, escort employee to Human Resources for drug test and completion of paperwork immediately.
    • Responsible for the oversight and management of all Foreman and front line staff as pertains to lifts and activities
    • Must be able to plan and implement projects, eliminate down time, and insure all subordinates are kept busy to maximize value of cost of labor
    • Constantly monitor staff for appearance, attitude, customer service, uniform, behavior, overall wellbeing, and be able to make timely and effective corrections.  
    • Be proficient in lift and activities principals and terminology.
    • Know and properly follow all radio and telephone procedures.
    • Work closely with Director, Manager, Maintenance, Pod Foremen, and front line staff.
    • Keep operators/attendants informed with current technical, departmental and company information.
    • Work with Director, Manager, and Trainers to develop and deliver a comprehensive training program, including daily and ongoing training.
    • Work to build and maintain strong departmental unity, cohesion, and team spirit, emphasizing professionalism, safety, and high customer service, and appearance standards.
    • Establish good working relationship with other departments, including Ski Patrol, Ski School, Tickets, Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, Food and Beverage.
    • Knowledge of required, safety, and company policy signage
    • Be completely knowledgeable in all Lift Operations and Activities Department procedures and policies.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Must have an eye for detail and the ability to effect immediate corrective measures

    General Purpose:

    Oversee the operation of assigned lifts or activities and the front line staff that run them.  Responsible for: efficient and safe daily operations providing a positive family friendly guest experience.     Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:

    • Establish and maintain documentation on Lift Operator / Attendant attendance and performance, for use in performance appraisals.
    • Work with operators and attendant to form crews, provide ongoing training and foster a team environment to ensure established standards are met.
    • Ensure proper and safe procedures are followed, and ensure excellent guest service skills are being used at all times, and implement and enforce safe operational policies and procedures for tools and staff
    • Oversee start-up, safety checks, auxiliary operations, code 4’s, completion of logs, to ensure proper procedures used.
    • Participate in all aspects of training, testing, and documentation.
    • Enforce safe operational policies and procedures for vehicles, machinery, amenities, tools for staff and guests
    • Use, teach, and oversee proper procedures for pre-operational safety checks, completion of daily logs, and inform Operations Manager, Supervisor and/or Maintenance of any unusual situations.  
    • Ensure stations have all necessary tools and equipment, make adjustments when necessary.
    • Closely monitor employee performance to ensure that all company equipment is being operated in a safe and responsible manner, to minimize damage to company property and to the environment. Ensure completion of an investigation, if company property is damaged, to determine the cause of the incident.

    • Have a well-rounded understanding of the lift/activities, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and be familiar with location of all major components and be able to communicate this information.

    Communicate directly with conference services division to ensure group fulfillment.  

    Manage inventory and ordering for all products.

    Prepare daily deposits in accordance with Banquet Event Orders.

    Directly manage staff to include assigning and scheduling work training, performance appraisals, promotions/transfers, disciplinary discussions/ actions  and recommendations for terminations. Make recommendations for salary increases.

    Review daily sales line-by-line budget; service, sales, controls, planning and processing on a daily basis.

    Handle customer concerns/problems.

    General Description:

    We are looking for energetic, fun loving, fit employees to join our Bike Patrol Team at Purgatory Resort. The successful candidate will have a passion for providing and promoting a safe environment for Purgatory guests and employees. The role of a Mountain Bike Patroller is similar to that of a Ski Patroller in that the Patroller will educate guests about safety considerations, monitor guests to ensure general mountain safety, and provide emergency medical care when necessary. Mountain Bike Patrol is a highly visible role at Purgatory Resort and requires a great deal of guest interaction.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

    Provide professional, friendly and courteous service to guest and employees, including responding to medical emergencies on the mountain, transporting injured guests off the mountain, and ensuring general mountain safety.

    Develop and maintain working knowledge of Bike Patrol procedures.

    Patrol the Bike Park to ensure trail readiness and assist injured guests.

    Know, understand, and adhere to the 2018 Bike Park Safety Act and Purgatory Resort mountain rules and regulations.

    Complete all required documentation in a timely and professional manner including logs, accident reports and checklists.

    Follow safety procedures at all times. Report any existing or potential safety hazard to supervisor immediately and remedy when possible according to established protocols.

    Check safety equipment daily for proper function.

    Perform sweeps at the end of the day to ensure that all guests and employees are safely off the mountain.

    Complete all duties and tasks with the utmost regard for personal and guest safety.

    Continuing education and on-the-job training provided and expected.

    Other Responsibilities:

    Special duties may include chairlift evacuation, out-of-bounds and/or night search and rescue activities.

    Responsibilities may include creation and maintenance of the trail within the bike park in cooperation with the bike park trail crew.

    Must provide own downhill mountain bike and helmet.

    Successful candidates will be required to work variable shifts, including weekends and school/public holidays.

     Entry-Level Job Qualifications:

    • Education or Formal Training:  Current CPR for Healthcare Providers and Colorado EMT certification required. National Registry EMT certification preferred. A valid drivers license is required.
    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Outdoor rescue skills. Advanced level mountain bike riding skills preferred. Ability to ride all trails in all conditions. Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time in variable weather conditions and at high altitude.

    ▪     Ensure proper and safe loading and unloading of guests, using excellent guest service skills at all times.

    ▪     Use proper procedures for lift start-up, lift shut-down, safety checks, auxiliary operations, code 4’s and completion of logs.

    ▪     Use proper procedures for pre-operational safety checks, relaying all information regarding daily lift logs to drive terminal, and inform drive terminal of any unusual situations.

    ▪     Maintain excellent entry and loading/unloading areas. Remove snow at all areas of station as required.

    • Maintain clean rags in each bartender’s station

    Other responsibilities

    • Cuts fruit to specification and prepares all condiment caddies.
    • Collects trash from all outlets throughout shift, as well as wiping down walls behind trash containers.
    • Distributes clean bar towels, as well as, collects soiled ones and discards them in the appropriate place.
    • Collects all excess glasses from bars and restocks them in their appropriate outlets in accordance to specification, along with retrieving bar glassware from dish areas.
    • Organizes and cleans pump rooms, coolers, and storage areas to specification.
    • Sweeps and mops pump room, coolers, and storage area floors.
    • Soaks and cleans soda bag-in-box hoses and nozzles.
    • Replaces and rotates draught beer kegs, liquor pump rooms and soda bag-in-boxes as required.
    • When assisting the bartenders with orders, uses suggestive selling/up-selling practices.
    • Approaches guests and welcomes them upon arrival.
    • Uses guest names during interactions and remembers their preferences.
    • Promptly and professionally handles guest issues and communicates problems and concerns to management.
    • Thanks guest, wishes them good luck, offers a warm farewell, and invites them back upon departure.
    • Requires evidence of age of any guest who appears to be under the age of thirty (30).
    • Continuously monitors bar to ensure that all guest are receiving beverage service in a timely manner.

    • Stock carts daily with guest supplies, cleaning supplies and linen to perform your cleaning functions. Remove soiled linen and trash from carts at the end of your shift. Advise supervisor of supplies that are running low.
    • Stock units with all pertinent collateral material.
    • Clean, follow, and maintain the quality standards.
    • Report all damage and missing items to the Supervisor.
    • Clean all corridors and service areas.
    • Turn in all lost and found items to the Supervisor.
    • Responsible for all keys signed out for the units that are to be cleaned.
    • This is a non-skiing position.
