Become a Tour Guide for Alaska Sled Dog Tours owned by Iditarod Champion, Dallas Seavey. Spend your winter driving a dog team through the Alaskan wilderness. Mushing experience preferred, but we will train the right person. Preference is given to anyone who has worked with animals/ livestock or has outdoor guiding experience. As a tour guide, your job would include:

Fall training - Your “Musher’s Boot Camp” will be helping us train our Iditarod team this fall. The dogs are hooked to a four-wheeler and run on dirt trails until the snow comes. You will get expert instruction on harnessing, booting and handling the dogs.  You’ll receive one on one coaching from Iditarod mushers while learning to drive a dog team.

Guiding tours - Tours involve greeting the guests, helping them get geared up, introducing them to the dogs and the Iditarod lifestyle, and taking them mushing on a 5-mile trail. You will be required to learn the history of the Iditarod, the sled dog, and the rules and traditions of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Kennel chores- You will be responsible for feeding and cleaning the dog yard and basic property upkeep as needed to keep things in working order.

All applicants must be able to be at the kennel by October 1st - 15 and stay through the end of the season on April 15th. Employees are responsible for their own travel expenses. Flights should come into Anchorage. We can get you to the kennel from there.

Qualifications required include being athletic and physically fit. You must be able to lift at least 80 pounds. Employees must have a valid driver’s license. Experience with winter driving conditions and pulling a trailer are a plus. You must also have a current Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification. If you don’t have it, or need to renew it, you can take the course up here. It will be your responsibility to have it prior to November 1st.

Housing will be provided. You will receive a salary of $1,750 per month plus tips. A vehicle will be available to run errands and get groceries. You will be expected to chip in for the fuel that you use.
