Greetings from Texas Conservation Corps! We're an AmeriCorps program based in Austin, Texas with a operating site in Houston. Our AmeriCorps members sign up for a 3, 6, or 11 month term of service where they receive a variety of benefits including a living stipend, education award, federal certifications, health insurance, and of course - the experience of a life time. 

We have orientations several times throughout the year, all of our members go through three weeks of training before they start their project work. We do not require experience to join our program, we'll teach you everything you need to know!

  • Summer Youth Crew Leader - Austin

    Texas Conservation Corps runs two summer youth crews based out of our Austin headquarters from June to August. We on-board our Youth Crew Leaders starting May 21st and they'll go through 3.5 weeks of training before their members arrive.

    After a week of Crew Member orientation the crews will head into the field to complete local conservation projects. Crew Leaders arrive to the office by 7:45am each day, with Crew Members arriving by 8am. After gathering the necessary tools for the project the Crew Leaders will drive their Members to their project site. After a full day's of work, the Crew will head back to the office to put away tools, park their vehicle, and be done for the day by 5pm.

    Projects include trail maintenance and habitat restoration projects at local parks, greenways, and nature preserves. Near the end of the season the Austin, Houston, and Baton Rouge Youth Crews will go on a week long hitch (camping for a project) at an out of town site.

  • Trails Across Texas Crew Member

    Our Trails Across Texas (TAT) crew partners with Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) to maintain and enhance the trail systems in Texas State Parks. These crews serve as the dedicated trail crew for all of the state parks. This crew camps for 10 days at a time and have 4 days off in between projects. 

    Projects may include building and maintaining trails, constructing stone retaining walls, check steps, boardwalks, chainsaw work, and ADA compliant trails. Members will be trained in using tools such as chainsaws, picks, pruning saws, loppers, and rock bars. No experience or skills required, just a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard within a diverse crew environment.

  • Conservation & Disaster Crew Member

    $1,308.00 / month

    Texas Conservation Corps Conservation & Disaster Crew Members serve 6 or 11 month terms, in which they work together to complete conservation and disaster mitigation projects on public lands. No experience is required to join our program. Crew Members go through three weeks of orientation where they receive training in conflict resolution, trail work, group dynamics, chainsawing, and much more. 

    From there they start working on conservation projects either in the local area or surrounding region. We travel as far as Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana for conservation projects. Out of town projects require crews to camp for a duration of 5 to 10 days before returning to their office. Projects include felling of hazardous trees, installation of erosion control barriers, fire fuels mitigation, clearing and restoration of trails, habitat restoration and invasive species management.

    These teams remain on call for local and national disasters, and are able to deploy at short notice for 30-60 days. A term as a crew member with Texas Conservation Corps is both a challenging and rewarding experience that you will remember for the rest of your life!

  • Harvey Strike Teams

    Texas Conservation Corps’ Harvey Strike Teams will help repair and construct homes affected by Hurricane Harvey.  Strike teams will perform new construction, weatherization & home repair projects for low-income/elderly residents. Teams will perform strenuous physical tasks outdoors in all types of weather. Members will be using hand/power tools: hammers, saws, drills, shovels & spray rigs, and may carry heavy material. They may be asked to climb ladders & scaffolding, work on roofs or in cramped spaces. Teams will receive construction, OSHA, and FEMA trainings. Leaders will facilitate daily logistics, and transport crews and materials safely in program vehicles.

    Harvey Strike Teams work Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm.
