We provide a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment in Alaska for people with a passion for the great outdoors. We hire dockhands, housekeepers, marine outboard mechanics, van drivers, seafood processors, J1 students and more! 

While our main focus is on fishing, there are other outdoor activities to enjoy while employed at the lodge. We require our employees to present themselves in a professional manner at all times. Our business is a service industry and our positions have a very high guest exposure.   • Dockhand

    Lodge Staff
    Ketchikan, Alaska
    $15.00 / hour + tips

    Job Description and Summary

    • The dockhands and deckhands primary responsibility is maintaining the cleanliness of all lodge areas (pier, floats, bait rooms, processing rooms, bathrooms and boats). Employees serve customers and guests by performing a variety of duties.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

    • Maintain organization and cleanliness of all marine facility, shop and fish processing areas.
    • Expedite all requests from guests including transport of baggage to and from beach houses.
    • Wipe down boat windshields and fill fish boxes with ice each morning.
    • Assist guests by hauling ice, bait, fishing equipment and coolers to rental boats.
    • Assist guests with tying and untying boats and unloading fish and scrubbing boats.
    • Assist other dockhands with fish cleaning, vacuum packing, blast freezing and packaging operations.
    • Clean and sanitize fish processing facilities, boats and equipment daily.
    • Provide the highest level of customer service with a smile.

    Preference given to people with boating experience; however, boating experience is not required for the entry-level dock hand position.

    Experienced dock hands may provide boat operation and safety orientations to guests when they check into the lodge. Dockhands with boating experience will operate and refuel 23′ power boats with 150hp engines at nearby marina. Dockhands with guiding experience or credentials may assist guests with operating down riggers and fishing reels, rigging tackle, tying knots and applying fishing techniques while giving boat safety orientations.

    This position reports to the Operations Manager. Chinook Shores Lodge has a work hard play hard culture with entry level pay starting at Alaska wages, tips and housing.

  • Van Driver

    Ketchikan, Alaska
    $15.00 / hour + tips

    Job Description and Summary

    • Transport Chinook Shores Lodge guests to and from airport and downtown Ketchikan in a safe and courteous manner at all times.
    • Greet arriving and departing guests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.
    • Assist guests with luggage and respond to guest requests  in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.
    • Note: Lodge vehicles include a Ford E350 12-passenger van, Chevy 12-passenger van and Ford F150 full size truck.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

    • This is the primary driver for fishing lodge, working with customers and guests, primarily pickup and delivery to lodge and airport.
    • Be able to work random shifts, managing a route that will accommodate an ‘ondemand’ schedule.
    • Act as a positive representative of Chinook Shores Lodge. Work using tact and understanding of the travel and hospitality industry.
    • Communicates with Chinook Shores Lodge upon disruption of service or flight cancellations.
    • Clean and refuel vehicles.
    • Report all vehicle repairs, and / or any unsafe or hazardous situations immediately to your supervisor.
    • Be flexible and available for special occasions, and special schedules.
    • Must consistently display and model the Chinook Shores Lodge hospitality behavior models.

    Education

    • CDL is not required

    Other Skills and Abilities

    ‘Excellent’ motor vehicle driving record, with no accidents or more than one moving violation in three years.

    Physical Demands

    Must be able to lift a 50lb box.

    Other Requirements

    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and be enrolled in a random drug testing through the term of employment.
  • Mechanic

    Boat Maintenance/Groundskeeping

    Required Experience:

    • Experience with boating, driving boat trailers, and outboard motors required. 
    • Technical training/education preferred but not required

    Your Average Day

    5:30am-10:00am: Morning Shift

    • Greet guests in the morning: Assist them with their bait and tackle; ice their boats for them; answer any questions regarding weather, tackle, boat operations
    • Prepare tackle and perform regular maintenance on fishing gear (rods, reels, downriggers, etc.)

    10:00am-2:00pm: Mid Day Shift

    • Scheduled boat maintenance and other grounds-keeping and maintenance projects
    • On-call to assist guests with any boat or fishing gear issues they encounter (line in prop, lost anchor, faulty reel, etc.)

    Evenings: Free

     

    On a Turnover Day:

    5:30am-10:00am: Morning Shift

    • Greet guests in the morning: Assist them with their bait and tackle; ice their boats for them; answer any questions regarding weather, tackle, boat operations
    • Prepare tackle and perform regular maintenance on fishing gear (rods, reels, downriggers, etc.)
    • Assess boats and tackle for damage 

    10:00am-2:00pm: Mid Day Shift

    • Scheduled boat maintenance and other grounds-keeping and maintenance projects 
    • On-call to assist guests with any boat or fishing gear issues they encounter (line in prop, lost anchor, faulty reel, etc.)
    • Assist with van driving if needed
    • Assist with boat orientations for new arriving guests (boat operations, trouble shooting, running gear, prepping bait, etc.)

    Evenings: Free


    The Ideal Candidate:

    • Experience working with Suzuki and Mercury outboards
    • Experience driving and backing up 23+ ft. boat trailers
    • Experience operating 23 ft. boats, and ocean fishing
    • Organized, responsible and trustworthy. Able to manage time and work independently. 
    • Must be able to assist in other departments (fish processing, van driving, dock hand, etc.) if needed.
    • Priority is given to applicants who are willing to step outside their job descriptions to help out fellow crew members when needed.
