We are currently hiring for our Guest Services position! As a member of our Guest Services team, you'll get to experience a bit of everything at the lodge! The primary role of this position is to ensure our lodge guests have a fun and relaxing vacation with all of their needs met. This begins with making sure that all cabins are cleaned to the highest standard on turnover days, and cabin exteriors are maintained daily. We do not do daily housekeeping. It also includes greeting and assisting guests as they come in from a day of fishing, shuttling guests to and from the airport or grocery store, grounds keeping and general lodge upkeep, and even fish filleting and processing! No boating or fishing experience is required -- but a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn are a must! A valid driver's license is preferred.

As a small family-run business we enjoy spending time to get to know our guests personally -- many have been coming to the lodge for years! When hiring new employees, we look for people who will help us continue to foster a friendly and personable environment, while upholding the key principles of professionalism.

Our season runs from June through the end of September. Additional part time work may be available in May and October. Ideal candidates will be able to work to September 20th, though start date is flexible.

Average Day:

9am-2pm: Daily lodge cleaning and upkeep tasks: interacting with guests as they come and go, helping unload fish from boats, selling merchandise in the tackle store, assisting with fish processing as needed, sweeping porches, cleaning BBQs, cleaning/organizing raingear and rainboots, doing laundry, scrubbing buckets/coolers, making boxes etc. Ocassional van driving duties: running errands in town, picking up groceries for guests.

5pm-8pm: Assisting with dock work and fish processing. Tying up boats, helping guests unload fish, talking to them about their day and making sure they have everything they need.

Turnover day:

7am-12pm: Housekeeping for cabins, cleaning up lodge facilities to ensure a good first impression for new arriving guests. Meeting guests at the airport, taking them grocery shopping and bringing them out to the lodge.

5pm-8pm: Assisting with dock work and fish processing as needed.

Our check-out time is 11am, and our check-in time is 2pm. However, due to limited flight availability, it is not uncommon for new guests to arrive as early as 11am. Our Guest Services staff must be able to follow instructions given by management, be trusted to work independently at times, and communicate effectively as a team.

Perks:

Employees with boating or fishing experience typically have access to boats and fishing gear at least once a week. Most of our employees end up taking home a box of fish at the end of the season! We encourage employees to experience SE AK fishing and to learn the techniques and local waters in order to enhance customer service.

Employees with valid driver’s licenses may check out lodge vehicles for day trips to nearby hiking trails, fly fishing, or to just explore Ketchikan. There are several beautiful nearby hiking trails and beaches to explore, and kayaks and jet-skis are available to rent at the marina just down the road. For wildlife lovers -- humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, harbor seals, black bears, and bald eagles are just a few that we see frequently at the lodge!

Housing:

Separate housing for male and female employees. Apartment-style housing is included and is within walking distance to the lodge, local marina, and restaurants. Bathrooms and bedrooms are occasionally shared between 2 people depending on how many employees we hire that season. Because our employees spend so much time together, we look for people that we feel will work well together and make a strong team. Crew quarters are completely furnished, and Wi-Fi is provided at no cost to employees. Cell service is good for most carriers at the lodge and around Ketchikan. Lodge vehicles are generally available to employees for grocery shopping and other errands or outings. Additionally, crew quarters are walking distance to public bus transportation that goes all the way to downtown Ketchikan. Local stores include: Safeway, WalMart, several sporting goods stores, coffee shops, pharmacies etc.
