Charit Creek is now accepting applications at our off the grid, backcountry lodge located in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in beautiful East Tennessee.

Our season typically runs March 1st - December 31st, with the spring and fall seasons being distinctly busy.  Our crew members work an average of 40 hours per week and typically receive at multiple days off in a row to enjoy the area.  We are a high achieving staff that strives to bring on crew members that reflect ultimate hospitality and unwavering commitment to our guests and to each other.  

These are mostly year round, full time position with lodging and food provided and is a tremendous opportunity for a self driven, motivated individual with a background in working at a remote, full service lodge and the ability to work well with a driven, high achieving team of 4-7 crew members.

  • Housekeeping Supervisor

    Lodge Operations
    Oneida
    $15.00 / hour + tips

    Newly created position..come be a part of this special team!

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service and information to all guests inclusive of eye contact, respectable conversation and a positive and friendly attitude.
    • Responsible for overall cleanliness and operation of all Charit Creek facilities and grounds.
    • Coordinate with lodge General Manager for ordering of all supplies, maintenance of all associated equipment and inventory of all items related to housekeeping and areas of responsibility.
    • Recruitment, hiring and retention of lodge crew members.
    • Managing, training and evaluation of crew members related to housekeeping duties and responsibilities.
    • Working with lodge general manager to update and maintain a current copy of standard operating procedures along with all daily, weekly and monthly checklists.
    • Manage the process of turning over all laundry the lodge uses on a timely and consistent fashion.
    • Communicate clearly with all crew members to inspire and create a culture of success and positivity.
    • Manage trash/recycling program including storage, removal and cleanliness of all associated areas.
    • Ability to work with all crew members to continuously decrease impact on the environment including reducing the lodge's carbon footprint and to encourage crew to live more sustainably.
    • Oversee groundskeeping operations as needed.
    • Work with Head Cook, Maintenance and General Manager to make Charit Creek Lodge a preeminent destination for nature lovers and for those who seek to disconnect and get in touch with the sights and sounds of our natural world.

     

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Hospitality/Customer service providing guests an exceptional experience
    • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
    • Minimum 1 year experience in a housekeeping role
    • Remote, off the grid or rural living a huge plus
    • Ability to work with lodge general manager, fellow lodge supervisors and crew members to create a culture of positivity and success.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Detail oriented, self-starter, highly motivated.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, ever-changing rugged environment.
    • Ability to appropriately balance speed and quality of work.
    • Knowledge of general backcountry lodge maintenance needs extremely helpful.
    • Must be willing and able to learn about the Big South Fork NRRA and be willing to share details with guests.

  • Head Cook

    Lodge Operations

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service and information to all guests inclusive of eye contact, respectable conversation and a positive and friendly attitude.
    • Responsible for (with the On Site Manager) the overall culinary and food program at Charit Creek Lodge including ordering, management of inventory, meeting all state and federal health guidelines and procedures, directing preparation and execution of all meals, and dining room service of family style meals at Charit Creek Lodge.
    • Directing preparation and execution of thoughtful and creative crew meals.
    • Coordinate with lodge On Site Manager for ordering of all supplies, maintenance of all associated equipment and inventory of all items related to the kitchen and dining operation.
    • Work with lodge On Site Manager to improve on current food costs, recipes and kitchen operations including production of the Charit Creek Lodge cookbook that is sold at multiple locations.
    • Recruitment, hiring and retention of lodge crew members, especially kirchen and dining room staff.
    • Managing, training and evaluation of crew members related to kitchen and dining room duties and responsibilities.
    • Working with Lodge On Site Manager to update and maintain a current copy of standard operating procedures along with all daily, weekly and monthly checklists.
    • Manage the process of keeping kitchen, dry goods storeroom and all other ares associated with kitchen operations neat, orderly, rotated, labeled and in good working order.
    • Communicate clearly with all crew members to inspire and create a culture of success and positivity.
    • Manage our water program including treatment, storage, reporting and sample turn-in to the State of Tennessee.  
    • Oversee entire lodge operations as a Manager on Duty as needed.
    • Ability to work with all crew members to continuously decrease impact on the environment including reducing the lodge's carbon footprint and to encourage crew to live more sustainably.
    • Work with Gardener to plan plantings and harvest of food that will be prepared for guest and crew meals.
    • Work with Housekeeping Supervisor, Maintenanance and General Manager to make Charit Creek Lodge a preeminent destination for nature lovers and for those who seek to disconnect and get in touch with the sights and sounds of our natural world.

     

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Hospitality/Customer service providing guests an exceptional experience
    • Minimum 2 years experience.
    • Minimum 3 year experience in a kitchen role.
    • Servsafe cerified.
    • Remote, off the grid or rural living a huge plus.
    • Capable of resolving issues as they arise with passion and creativity.
    • Ability to work with lodge general manager, fellow lodge supervisors and crew members to create a culture of positivity and success.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Detail oriented, self-starter, highly motivated.

  • Hospitality/Food service/Housekeeping Crew Member

    Lodge Operations

    Hospitality/Food Service/ Housekeeping Crew Member is truly the heart of our operation!

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service and information to all guests inclusive of eye contact, respectable conversation and smiling.
    • Assist with guests check-ins to cabins and tents, help them feel welcomed by setting a friendly and inclusive tone for our lodge.
    • Prepare and clean 7 cabins, bathhouse, dining room and common areas each day for guests.
    • Clean horse stalls as needed.
    • Assisting with kitchen and dining room operations as needed and as skills permit.
    • Manage and maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment and wash dishes efficiently.
    • Assist with lodge operations in the areas of groundskeeping, gardening and customer service.
    • Develop a working knowledge of the trails and sights near the lodge.
    • Must be flexible and able to multitask –– new challenges arise each day.

      Qualifications:
    • 1 Year Minimum Customer Service/Hospitality/Food Service Required.
    • Ability to appropriately balance speed and quality of work.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to follow directions.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, ever-changing rugged environment.
    • Ability to be proactive, able to manage projects solo, and enjoy working autonomously.
    • 1 Year Minimum Outdoor Experience OR Experience Living in a Remote Location.

  • Maintenance/Groundskeeping

    Lodge Operations

    $12.50 / hour

    Compensation will be handled on a case by case basis and will be commensurate with work and relevent experience.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service and information to all guests inclusive of eye contact, respectable conversation and a positive and friendly attitude.
    • Responsible for keeping all tools, machines, and operating sytems such as propane distribution and water systems in good working order.
    • Responsible for keeping all lodge owned buildings and lodge grounds well maintained including use of skills such as carpendry, roofing, landscaping, masonry and any other lodge related maintenance tasks.
    • Coordinate with lodge General Manager for ordering of all supplies, maintenance of all associated equipment and inventory of all items related to maintaining all systems and machines and areas of responsibility.
    • Working with lodge general manager to update and maintain a current copy of standard operating procedures along with all daily, weekly and monthly checklists.
    • Work with all crew members and management of Charit Creek Lodge to keep the campus of Charit Creek Lodge fully maintained and working efficiently.
    • Communicate clearly with all crew members to inspire and create a culture of success and positivity.
    • Manage trash/recycling program including storage, removal and cleanliness of all associated areas.

  • Gardener/Naturalist

    Lodge Operations

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service and information to all guests inclusive of eye contact, respectable conversation and a positive and friendly attitude.
    • Responsible for garden operations of a small garden plot and various garden beds and native species plants around the lodge.
    • Responsible for giving nature tours and disseminating information to guests concerning native uses of the land, native flora and fauna and an overall history of the lodge.
    • Coordinate with lodge General Manager for ordering of all supplies, maintenance of all associated equipment and inventory of all items related to the food growing program and areas of responsibility.
    • Work with Head Cook/General Manager to plan, execute and harvest garden based on needs of kitchen and lodge and of growing seasons.
    • Handle all garden operations with a sense of culivating food and protecting the land,.
    • Working with lodge general manager to update and maintain a current copy of standard operating procedures along with all daily, weekly and monthly checklists.
    • Communicate clearly with all crew members to inspire and create a culture of success and positivity.
    • Manage composting program including storage, moving and cleanliness of all associated areas.
    • Ability to work with all crew members to continuously decrease impact on the environment including reducing the lodge's carbon footprint and to encourage crew to live more sustainably.
    • Assist with groundskeeping operations as needed.
    • Work with Head Cook, Maintenance, General Manager and crew members to make Charit Creek Lodge a preeminent destination for nature lovers and for those who seek to disconnect and get in touch with the sights and sounds of our natural world.

    • Detail oriented, self-starter, highly motivated.

    • Knowledge of Flora and fauna and history of the Cumberland Plateau extremely helpful.
