If you have a love for the ocean and a passion for youth, this opportunity is for you! Teach marine science to students in grades 4-12 on Catalina Island. In this setting we conduct hands on learning activities in dynamic labs, take students snorkeling and kayaking, and hike through Catalina's rugged interior.

About Catalina Island Marine Institute
88% of Catalina's 75 square miles are protected against development. In this setting we conduct hands-on learning at its best, using our fine indoor laboratories and our beautiful outdoor coastal learning areas. Our program is mentally and physically challenging, and we expect much of our instructors. They teach snorkeling, marine labs, kayaking, hiking and various evening programs. Piloting small vessels is also part of their duties.

Think you have what it takes to be a Marine Science Instructor at CIMI? Our staff is passionate about the ocean, environmental stewardship, and experiential outdoor education. We are a community of high-energy, adventurous, compassionate, and nurturing educators that enjoy sharing our passions with students. As a Marine Science Instructor you must be flexible in an ever changing environment, as well as adapt lesson plans and teaching styles to provide positive programs for a range of students. You must be willing and able to work within a team, contributing a positive, go-get-em attitude. Our staff is committed to making a difference in the lives of their students, providing quality outdoor hands-on education, and going above and beyond ensuring an authentic and unique experience. Room and Board
Housing and full meals provided when CIMI kitchen is in operation. Always provided snacks and access to specified food when kitchen is not in operation. All staff is housed in a comfortable, communal, unit with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, community washer and dryers available 24/7.
At CIMI you have the unique opportunity to utilize most equipment in camp during your off time. This includes access to paddle boards, kayaks, scuba tanks, power boats, rock climbing wall, basketball courts, a volleyball court, an archery range, many hiking trails, and vehicles to explore the island. Additionally, as an outdoor educator you will have access to discounted gear through many companies relevant to our field of work.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Once on the island, you’ll have the opportunity, if applicable, to check out company power boats and vehicles in order to adventure around the island. Gas is provided by the company for both boats and cars. Staff shuttle rides to town occasionally offered to those who need a ride on days or nights off.
Members of the CIMI community are very like-minded, enjoying various island activities in their free time, such as snorkeling adventures, hiking treks, dive trips, spearfishing excursions, and backside camping trips. Our staff is filled with outdoor enthusiasts who take advantage of their surroundings, appreciating and utilizing the beauty of the island and the incredible ocean access.
