Hiring for this position occurs on a rolling basis. Start dates are flexible and will vary based on position availability.
Position Summary:
The general housekeeping/maintenance person assists in the housekeeping/maintenance and operation of all buildings and grounds as well as assisting in facility cleaning/security. The general maintenance person at Catalina Island Marine Institute/Catalina Sea Camp has the responsibility to assist in maintaining a safe campus and ability to respond promptly to the facility's needs as outlined by the Maintenance Director.
Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Cognitive and communication abilities to learn, organize, and implement maintenance thought-out camp.
Possess the ability to communicate effectively over the telephone and directly with staff, and suppliers.
Be able to respond to emergency situations.
Ability to drive a vehicle and construction equipment.
Ability to lift heavy loads 50-100 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders for necessary jobs and repairs.
Ability to operate maintenance equipment and to know proper safety procedures for each.
Understanding of the Hazard Communication Plan and MSDS forms as well as other DQ Safety Programs including but not limited to lock out/tag out, confined spaces, respirators and bloodborne pathogens.
Specific Responsibilities/Supportive Functions:
Assist in general maintenance including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, window glazing, roofing heating repairs, small electric motor repair and pool maintenance.
Cleaning all bathrooms and bunk rooms
Assist in general landscaping responsibilities when necessary.
Perform manual types of labor as needed to repair or construct buildings and properties.
Perform assigned preventative maintenance duties on a regular basis without supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a current driver’s license.
Must have basic knowledge in areas that include but are not limited to general electrical, plumbing, carpentry, septic systems, roofing, painting and landscaping.
Willingness and ability to learn.
Mature, capable, mechanically-oriented.
Self-starter, with ability to work well with supervision.
Ability to take direction from others.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Desire and ability to work and live in camp community.
Good character, integrity, flexibility and adaptability
Must be able to abide by all Guided Discoveries, Inc. rules and regulations and strive to help keep the facility safe for all staff and clients.
Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
