The Chief Engineer manages all engineering/maintenance operations, including maintaining two buildings, grounds and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security and asset protection. They will be accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance and energy conservation. Responsible for all maintenance, repairs and engineering personnel.


  • Oversees the Canoe Place Inn and Cottages and the Boathouses at Canoe Place Inn, which include 18 bright and airy two- and three-bedroom residences in 2022 followed by an additional 19 residences set to launch in 2023.
  • Manages the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
  • Maintains and operates equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency and safety.
  • Establishes and manages an effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Ensures compliance with all Engineering departmental policies, standards and procedures.
  • Manages the department's expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities in order to determine the type of work required.
  • Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of Engineering employees by providing direction and guidance, ensuring quality standards are achieved.
  • Working knowledge and experience with swimming pool maintenance.
  • Proficient with safety protocols with state and federal code understanding.  


  • Four-year college degree preferred
  • Previous hotel engineering experience preferred
  • Scheduling flexibility (this position is on call 24 hours a day). Must be willing to work extended hours to ensure the smooth operation of the Engineering department.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Strong financial knowledge and computer skills required.
  • Professional Certification and license if required by law.
  • Project management skills
  • Valid driver’s license from appropriate state and MVR in good standing.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

  • Extremely self-sufficient with good analytical, administrative, and problem-solving skills

  • Good self-discipline with an ability to complete tasks independently
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, issues, co-workers, and guests in stressful situations and take responsibility in a professional manner
