Looking for a unique summer job? Come to the shores of beautiful Lake Plantagenet in Northern Minnesota! Being on staff at Thunderbird is an experience of camaraderie and community. Our staff comes from all over the country and the world, and the relationships formed at camp often last a lifetime.
Camp Thunderbird is looking for an Arts and Crafts Director. This program focuses on developing and delivering a well-rounded program that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers. You should be able to prepare lesson plans that are challenging for the campers and well rounded in the vast field of art. The program should allow campers to work on a long-term as well as a one hour project. You should be able to design and deliver an arts and crafts activities that make use of different art mediums, camps natural environment, and uses the art resources efficiently. As the arts and crafts director, you will be managing one dedicated assistant and a few floating assistants throughout the summer.
As a Specialist, you are an integral part of our community and have responsibilities outside your activity area. You are a role model and will be called upon to assist and help in various aspects of camp. Some responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Setting up and assisting in leading evening activities and special events
- Assisting with baggage delivery
- Supporting cabin staff with cabin life during rest times and evenings
- Evening On Duty rotation
- Be present and participating in all camp meals and all camp events
Qualifications: Teaching experience (preferably in an art based class), a BFA degree, or pursuing a BFA or art teaching degree. Other summer camp experience is always a bonus.
As a Specialist at Camp Thunderbird, you will live in a staff cabin with other staff members. Our salary includes room and board, a travel stipend and is dependent upon experience. Our dates are June 8-August 9th.
At Thunderbird, we are preparing our campers (and staff) to be competent collaborators, creative problem solvers, and social navigators to help with a successful transition to adulthood.
