Our season runs from Labor Day through mid-October.  New hires will be required to arrive by May 22nd, although applicants interested in helping with setup are encouraged to arrive the week of May 15th.

  • Director's Assistant

    Rockaway Beach, NY
    $17.00 / hour + tips

    Although you will be working at the “front desk”, your job is about so much more than just checking guests in and out of the camp. Director’s Assistants are the face of Camp Rockaway - the first on-site interaction a guest may have is at the front desk of the camp. The staff in this position need to be brand ambassadors, tour guides, full of helpful information, and overall problem solvers.

    You will be successful as a Director’s Assistant if you are friendly, kind, helpful, love working outdoors, genuinely concerned about making people happy and comfortable, and interested in participating in the local activities so that you can recommend them to guests.

    Director’s Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Always keep the overall camp environment presentable and engaging.
       
    • Guest Services – In a timely and friendly manner, respond to guest questions about their stay, the tent they are staying in, and any needs that come up during their stay.
       
    • Guest Arrival – Greet guests, efficiently complete check-in procedures, inform guests of policies, camp layout, food options, camp activities, and amenities. Deliver guests and luggage to their tent and explain all aspects of their stay. Give A+ customer service by anticipating any future needs based on their situation and circumstances.
       
    • Concierge – Become knowledgeable about the area and all available local activities. Some of these activities might include hiking, biking, tours, shopping, etc... Learn about resources you can use to answer guest questions and that the guest would be able to use as well.
       
    • Housekeeping - Assist with daily changeovers of tents, and regular cleaning of restrooms and showers.
       
    • Coffee Service - set up and maintain coffee service area. Break down and clean up.
       
    • Fire pit and s'mores - Build and maintain fires in the evenings. Supply guests with s’mores packs and roasting sticks. Communicate safety recommendations to guests. Extinguish fire at quiet time. Clean up fire pit area, wash roasting sticks and trays.
       
    • Team Player – Communicate with co-workers to create a great environment for the guests.

     

    Knowledge, skills, and Abilities Required:

    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while projecting a positive attitude and engaging manner
    • Ability to work for long periods of time outdoors in possibly uncomfortable temperatures and/or weather and view the experience as an adventure
    • Ability to be outgoing, pleasant, and empathetic even in confrontational situations
    • Customer service knowledge and experience
    • Ability to skillfully work with a variety of personalities, circumstances, and environments
    • Working at the campground requires constant bending, kneeling, standing and walking
    • Ability to continuously lift 25lbs
    • Ability to push a loaded cart tent to tent

  • Hospitality Associate

    Rockaway Beach, NY
    $15.00 / hour

    Camp Rockaway is seeking hospitality and tourism management students to help run its 2019 season. The camp has operated two successful pilots with the National Park Service and garnered the praise of the New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, Lonely Planet and more. Students will participate in every aspect of the business and will be working alongside seasoned hospitality staff in an incredible location.
