Camp Mendocino is an outdoor education and environmental awareness program focused on the character and leadership development of kids from disadvantaged circumstances. For 85 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco has been providing this creative, fun and supportive camping experience for youth ages 8 to 18. Our staff provides the love and encouragement kids need to realize their potential.
Camp Mendocino is an outdoor education and environmental awareness program located in a beautiful 2,000 acre redwood forest, three and half hours north of San Francisco California.
About Camp Mendocino
Camp Mendocino serves all youth, but we make sure that our Camp is especially accessible to youth from disadvantaged circumstances. It's in our mission to ensure that we serve the youth who need us most. As a staff member at Camp Mendocino, you'll have the opportunity to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of young people. Camp is in session from June 11th - August 6th. Youth arrive at Camp in five 7 - 10 day sessions. Each session numbers approximately 250 youth.
At Camp, kids learn to respect themselves and others and are provided opportunities to learn, grow and succeed. As a staff member at Camp Mendocino, you create a safe and supportive environment where kids have the opportunity to build skills and confidence while participating in numerous fun activities. We offer swimming, challenge course/climbing wall, mountain biking, dance and drama, art, nature, gardening, environmental education and more. Campers leave Camp Mendocino having mastered new skills, overcome challenges, made new friends, improving self-esteem, and gaining an increased respect and understanding of nature. Most importantly, Camp Mendocino is a place where kids can be kids again!
The Employee Experience
At Camp Mendocino, we have one session exclusively for youth from Military families and 4 sessions that are open to everyone. We target kids from disadvantaged circumstances, low-income, living in foster care, living in group homes, or referred by social workers.
Camp Mendocino has zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol on Camp property.
Meals and lodging are provided
All counselors stay in open-air cabins. Staff and campers sleep in bunk beds and share bathroom and toilet stalls. There is limited electricity in the cabins, but electricity available throughout Camp. Support staff will share lodging and bathrooms with other support staff.
Vegetarian options are available for campers and staff. We are a nut-free facility.
Meals and lodging are available during staff time off. There is also a staff lounge and many hiking trails available.

Room and Board

Medical Staff stay in the infirmary living quarters.
Getting Here and Getting Around
We provide transportation by charter bus from San Francisco to Camp. There is limited space for vehicles at Camp. If you are interested in driving to Camp, you will first need to obtain permission from the Camp Director.
Camp Mendocino is approximately 30 miles from the cities of Fort Bragg, and Willits California. Fort Bragg is on the west coast of California and has beautiful natural resources to visit. Many hiking trails, camping sites, local stores, and restaurants are available during days off. Camp is also approximately 4 hours from the city of San Francisco. Many cultural events and attractions are available in the city for staff participation. The majority of our staffing team is local to the San Francisco Bay area and are always willing to offer suggestions, or plan events/tourist attractions with international staff for time off during Camp, as well as after the Camp season is complete.
