About Camp Jackson
For 17 exciting summers, Camp Jackson has been a leader in summer camp programming in Teton County. As one of Jackson Hole's largest, most well-known and exciting summer day camp programs, Camp Jackson enrolls up to 130 participants in grades 1st-6th per day. Home-base is located in our local elementary school, but most of our days are spent adventuring in Grand Teton National Park under beautiful blue skies and bright sunshine!
Counselors play hard and work hard surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery in the country. Our campers and counselors spend their summer swimming, hiking, playing, and exploring in this awe-inspiring region! Every day is a new chance to develop your inner leader and bring your unique awesomeness to our team. As part of Camp Jackson you and the other counselors will work together to make each day of our 10 week program an unforgettable experience for yourselves and your campers!
The Employee Experience
Working at Camp Jackson offers one of the best summer experiences in the west! We are situated in Legendary Jackson Hole, WY, right outside of Grand Teton National Park and a 2 hour drive to Yellowstone. Our summer camp staff get to experience a wide variety of the amazing activities our area has to offer, all while enriching the lives of our local youth! Camp Jackson employees work and play hard in our breathtaking natural wilderness and around the vibrant town of Jackson Hole. Each day at camp is a new adventure. During any given week you could find yourself hiking in the shadows of the Teton Mountain Range, swimming in crystal-clear high alpine lakes while bald eagles soar overhead, making ice cream at the top of the Teton Village Tram, refereeing a high-stakes kick ball game, or rafting on the snake river! If incredible vistas, lifelong friendships, and making a difference in children's lives is what you're looking for this summer then Camp Jackson is the place to be!
The ideal Camp Jackson counselor is someone who is accountable, enthusiastic, creative, outgoing, patient, hardworking, and passionate about enriching the lives of youth. Our days are long and spent mostly outdoors in various weather conditions. Someone who can go with the ever-changing flow and make the best of each situation is well suited to a position at Camp Jackson. Staff are expected to represent our camp with pride and enthusiasm in their daily interactions with the general public and with our participants while on and off duty. The ability to work as a team to problem solve and create exciting experiences for our campers is important to the daily success of our program.
Room and Board
While we do not have employee housing, we do have a parking lot!
We are pleased to offer a permitted section of parking in our Parks and Recreation parking lot. We affectionately refer to this area as RecLand. This has become a home-away-from-home for many Camp Jackson employees over the past couple of summers and has become its own little summertime community. RecLand has even been featured in a few news articles!
- Free. Permits available after hiring. Spaces limited.
- Vehicles must be under 18 feet in length
- Full use of the Rec Center facilities (Showers...)
- Next to open green space for games, lounging, picnics, etc.
Traditional housing in Jackson Hole can be difficult to come across and can be expensive. There are great rooms available for those willing to put in the effort to search for them. Starting your search early is always a good idea.
Aside from the intrinsic joys and rewards of making a difference in the lives of children, some of the perks of working for Camp Jackson are:
- Full use of the Recreation Center ( Pool, Hot Tub, Sauna, Steam Room, Showers, Gym.)
- Fantastic networking with members of the local community
- Working outside in one of the most picturesque regions in the United States!
- During work you will have opportunities to experience multiple programs/places that usually charge admission (Grand Teton National Park, The Raptor Center, Rafting trips, The Tram at Teton Village, etc.)
Getting Here and Getting Around
If you are flying in to Jackson Hole Airport we have Uber, Lyft, and local Taxi Companies that can get you to town. If you fly into Salt Lake City, you can book either the Alltrans or the Salt Lake City Express which will bring you the 6 hour journey to town. All of these options are something to factor into your travel budget! If you are driving here, expect long open roads, high mountain passes, and gorgeous scenery! Jackson is not close to most places so the drives can be long but they are very beautiful! Some of our 2019 staff were greeted by a nice little June snow storm.
The town of Jackson is only about 3 square miles. It is very easy to get around town without a personal vehicle. We have free public transportation around town via the Start Bus. Start Bus also has routes to Teton Village, Victor, and Alpine for a fee. (Victor and Alpine bus schedules may not be congruent with Camp Jackson start and end times. Keep this in mind while looking at housing in the region). Biking around Jackson is very popular and a good option to get from place to place.
Having a personal vehicle is great because it affords you the ability to get up to Grand Teton National Park, The Gros Ventures, Teton Village, Victor, Alpine, and other spots whenever you like. But not having one is a viable option as well!
There are so many wonderful things to do during the summer!
- Seemingly endless hiking trails with incredible vistas and wildlife aplenty
- Whitewater and scenic rafting
- Rock climbing
- Tons of live music!: JH Live concert series, Concerts in the Commons series, The Pink Garter Theater, Targhee Festival, Targhee Bluegrass Festival.
- Two summer art festivals
- Mountain biking
- Floating the Snake River
- Swimming in our gorgeous lakes
- Waffles at the top of The Tram
