Our Rural Program travels to 28 different rural communities throughout Alaska to engage communities and their youth in a variety of activities, always emphasizing the importance of healthy life choices while reducing high-risk behaviors and increasing protective factors. Rural summer programming provides safe and fun activities for youth, with additional opportunities for families, elders, and the whole community to learn, grow, and thrive.

Location: Anchorage & Bethel, AK for training and 2 to 3 various Rural communities within Alaska.  Teams of staff travel to 2 to 3 communities in June and July, providing a program that lasts 2-4 weeks in each community. 

Dates: May 18- July 30.  Travel begins in early June and ends in late July.  The staff starts in mid-May to complete a 2-week training.  

Shifts: Rural Travel Camp Lead staff reside in assigned rural communities.  Workdays typically run from 11 am-9 pm with programming from 12 pm-5 pm and 7 pm-9 pm, Tuesday through Saturday each week. Staff generally have two days off each week to explore the local community.

Pay: Minimum season compensation of $5,500.00/season or $6,000.00/season if you have your lifeguard certification; and is paid every other week. Room and Board are provided from May 17th -July 30th, 2020.  If the required work exceeds the amount of work planned for, you will be paid extra hours. 

Activities: Travel Camp Lead Staff develop and run summer day camp programs such as team building, sports and games, cold water safety and swimming, outdoor recreation, and community events.  Evenings are reserved for teen based programs.

Travel Stipend:  A travel stipend will be paid on the final paycheck to staff that successfully complete the entire season commitment.
