- Follow all farm standards guidelines
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness on the premise at all times
- Assures all restrooms on the premise are kept clean and stocked with soap, paper towels and toilet paper
- Make up, maintain and turn over all cabins and yurts in a timely manner
- Keeping all yurt and cabin laundry in good condition by washing, drying and folding
- Maintain the farm house and programing areas are clean
- Keep the horse barn clean and organized by sweeping and mopping
- Manage a weekly schedule of necessary housekeeping duties and accomplish them in a timely manner
- Keep an inventory of cleaning supplies and other housekeeping items and communicate with the appropriate departments to order these supplies
- Assist the kitchen staff with meal preparation, cleaning food preparation equipment used, and ensuring food preparation and service areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner
- Assist in the kitchen if needed
- Assist the barn staff with care and feeding of all farm animals and cleaning their pens
- Assist the facilities staff with maintenance of property/facilities
- Support students in experiential learning activities and create a safe environment for them
- Assist with other functions and duties as assigned Assist with transportation of students and staff to and from the farm if needed
- Professional, mature and experienced working with a wide range of populations (experience with both youth and adult clients)
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Good communication skills
- Able to work independent of others with minimal supervision
- Must be available to work weekends and nights
- Employee must pass TB test and Livescan background clearance
- Must hold a valid driver’s license for at least the past 3 years and have a clean driving record
- Supervise and oversee Kitchen Department when Head Chef is not scheduled
- Assist Head Chef in keeping inventory of food and Kitchen Department supplies
- Prepare and serve meals for students, staff, and guests
- Follow established recipes and meet quality standards both in volume and small quantities
- Provide comparable meal options for dietary restrictions and allergies
- Perform repetitive work such as slicing, chopping, cutting, stirring, frying and other related kitchen duties
- Ensure food is maintained at proper serving temperatures
- Clean food preparation equipment used, and ensures food preparation and service areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly deep cleaning of the facility and service areas and all kitchen equipment
- Practice safe food handling guidelines according to Health and Safety and regulations (CALCODE)
- Receive, label, and stock food and supplies according to Environmental Health and Safety and regulations (CALCODE)
- Assist with other functions and duties as assigned
- Greet our guests with a smile and express a genuine appreciation for them
- Professional, mature and experienced working with a wide range of populations (experience with both youth and adult clients)
- Ability to interpret and follow recipes and to compute basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to work under time constrains, and prepare meals for small (10) as well as large (50-100+) groups
- Able to work independent of others with minimal supervision as well as in a team
- Culinary Arts Degree or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent experience in kitchen preparation and cooking
- ServSafe Certified preferred
- Must be available to work weekends
- Employee must pass TB test and Livescan background clearance
- Feed and water animals according to their specific needs and schedules
- Monitor the health and well-being of animals, promptly reporting any concerns to the farm manager.
- Assist with general animal care tasks such as grooming, cleaning and administering medications.
- Maintain clean and organized barns, stalls, and animal living areas.
- Ordering and maintaining of supplies and food for animals
- Support maintaining gates and other spaces that the animals use in order to keep them safe.
- Collaborate with the programs team for any student programing needs
- Must be able to lift 60-80 lbs
- Knowledge of horses, sheep, donkeys, chickens and other small animals
- Equine therapy experience preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of equivalent experience in the equine industry (post high school) preferred
- Experience working with horses and as a wrangler
- Passionate about working with at risk youth
- Must hold valid driver’s license for at least the past 3 years and have a clean driving record
Housekeeping Intern Pool for 2025 Season
The Blackbird Housekeeping Intern will perform all housekeeping duties at the farm. The Housekeeping Intern may assist in other duties around the farm when necessary. The Housekeeping Intern will report directly to the Farm Manager.

Cook Pool for 2025 Season
The Cook is an integral part of Blackbird Farm. The Cook assists the Chef in order for the Kitchen Department to prepare and serve three nutritious meals a day for students, staff, and guests. The Cook reports to the Head Chef.

Barn Wrangler
This position is primarily responsible for the general oversight of the animals on the farm, with a focus on feeding and ensuring well being and safety of the livestock.
