The Idaho Aviation Foundation (IAF) is seeking two people to join the operations/maintenance team at Big Creek Lodge, Idaho starting full time in May until mid Oct 2022. The lodge is located in a remote, off grid setting but has its own hydroelectric plant, hot and cold water, and WIFI. The crew lives on site and is provided room and board plus equally shared tips. Days are typically long with down time taken as workload permits. If you are a person who wants to be involved in a unique experience and is not afraid of work, likes backcountry living and can be flexible to a variable work schedule, then this job may be for you.


  • Must be over 19 years old
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work indoors & outdoors in varying weather (cold/heat, smoke, occasional snow, etc)
  • Applicants should have strong communication skills and meet well with the public
  • Applicants must be in good health and physically capable of performing the duties described.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to ‘think on feet’, take initiative and solve problems when needed.
  • Desire to please visitors and have an aptitude for hospitality
  • Ability to process transactions using Square terminal, average computer skills with Excel, for financial reporting
  • Ability to process cash transactions and give correct change.
  • Ability to suggest ideas that can grow occupancy and/or improve the customer experience
  • Willingness to work extra hours as needed during busy times while enjoying long breaks during slow times                                                                                                                


  • First Aid Training (Wilderness First Aid, First Responders, AED training, CPR, etc)
  • Culinary and or Hospitality Training/Experience
  • Basic skills with hand and power tools
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining equipment and utilities
  • Idaho Health and Welfare food handling certification, which can be arranged prior to start date



  • Understanding and embracing the vision of Big Creek Lodge
  • Cheerfully greeting guests, assisting with questions, helping coordinate activities, etc
  • Helping plan, prepare and serve all meals and drinks (including wine/beer) to drop-ins as well as lodge guests. ( drop in breakfast is the busiest time)
  • Being creative and flexible in utilizing available resources and minimizing waste
  • Storing and handling food to Idaho Board of Health standards
  • Managing merchandise inventory and sales
  • Cleaning lodge, duplex and yurt & maintaining clean linens, dishes, etc.
  • Making up guest rooms to a high standard
  • Planning for guests via reservation data from website
  • Collecting cash/credit card payments for services and goods & basic record keeping
  • Mowing and watering lawn
  • Maintaining buildings and equipment, performing minor maintenance as needed
  • Cutting/splitting firewood as needed
  • Working and communicating well with others and a supervisor
  • Disposing of garbage (requires occasional travel 1 hour each way to Yellow Pine)
  • Promoting Big Creek Lodge via website/social media posts
  • Understanding and meeting operational requirements of USFS Special Use Permit
  • Maintaining productive relationships with USFS, Edwardsburg neighbors, outfitters, etc
  • Managing controllable costs
  • Assisting customers with emergencies, and other issues as needed
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned


  • Salary starts at $500/week plus room and meals (not including alcohol)
  • Up to $2000 per person in performance incentives, criteria to be agreed upon prior to starting work
  • Managers will have latitude to run the Lodge with their judgement assuming key measures are met and policies are coordinated/approved by the IAF Supervisor
  • Enjoyment of the local area and outdoor activities during slow times and time off. Potential for 2-4 days off per month, and possible assistance during busy times using volunteers

Successful applicants will meet requirements and preferred skills above, be legally eligible to work in the US, and if a job offer is tendered, will supply a motor vehicle report, agree to a drug test and background check that results in satisfactory findings. Due to the public contact, Covid vaccinations/boosters are preferred but not required.
