The Bar NI Ranch is a privately owned guest ranch located on 36,000 gorgeous acres in southern Colorado. Located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range, we are a remote property with varying landscapes and lots of activities to offer. We are seeking an experienced horseman/horsewoman to fill our Wrangler positions for the 2024 season.

The primary responsibility of this position is to guide trail rides in a safe and confident manner with riders of all ages and abilities through the backcountry. Qualities we look for in an applicant include the ability to create an engaging experience, riders that are comfortable guiding in mountainous terrain, and experienced, confident riders who enjoy sharing their knowledge with guests. An applicant must be comfortable teaching guests of different skill levels- we lead walk, trot, and lope rides with a heavy emphasis on proper instruction and horsemanship. Responsibilities may also include horse training, driving our team of Fjords, trail maintenance, doctoring, fixing fence, assisting with ranch hay production (loading and stacking bales), moving cattle, and other duties as assigned by head wrangler and ranch manager.

We are looking for riders who have experience with green horses and problem horses. Colt starting experience is a plus. Wranglers must be able to react quickly and safely to all situations around horses and on horseback in the arena or on trails. CPR and first aid certification preferred! You must be physically fit and able to lift at least 50lb above your head with no issues on a regular basis, as well as be able to mount a horse from the ground. We prefer a mature applicant (21+) who has a good attitude, can work well with a team, and communicate efficiently, and can work effectively when unsupervised.

The position runs Spring-Fall with the potential for long-term employment. Onsite shared housing is provided (private rooms), including all utilities. We cannot accommodate pets and do not have family housing available. Compensation includes all meals, salary DOE, shared tips, free nights for personal guests to visit, and access to all ranch activities during time off. Work schedules will vary and typically include weekends during the guest season.
